I usually only order a few types of products from Schwan's. Ice cream, sherbet, smoothies, vegetables and sometimes pizza. I don't eat processed food so I stay away from their prepared meals like shrimp scampi, chicken pot pie, macaroni and cheese and lasagne, just to name a few. Foods like that are preserved with copious amounts of sodium, I prefer to make meals from scratch. With my eating habits as they are, I rarely read the list of ingredients on anything. I don't buy foods that have a list of ingredients.

I decided to order Schwan's USDA Choice Beef Sirloin Steaks. The price is reasonable for four 6 ounce steaks, 1 ½” thick. The steaks are raw, individually wrapped and frozen. Before placing my order I did not read the ingredient label available on the website. I'm not in the habit of reading labels, I didn't even think of it. It's raw meat after all.
The steaks were delivered and I wanted to broil one right away. I cut open the plastic wrapper and immediately smelled salt. It was a strong smell. Why? I wondered. It's raw meat after all. That's when I read the ingredient label:
- Sodium Phosphate
Then I looked at the nutrition label only to find:
- Sodium 480 mg per steak.
That explains the strong smell of salt.
The steaks were tender so if you're not averse to consuming unnecessarily large amounts of sodium, you might like these.
I will not ever again order raw steaks from Schwan's. Chances are I won't be ordering pork chops either.

Reasons I Like Schwan's
Schwan's delivers with their own trucks on a precise schedule. I always know what day and time they will be there. No waiting for hours or all day for UPS or FedEx. They have no minimum order for delivery, and the fee is $1.75 for orders under $49.99. Over that amount delivery is free.
My regular driver usually texts me the day before delivery day to remind me to order online.
Points are earned with each order at the rate of 1 point for every $1 spent. Points are worth 5% off to be used on future orders. Points will accumulate until used but expire after one year.
Example: $100 spent = 100 points = $5 off future order
