The Art of Online Money Getting

by DrDarko

Basics of money getting do not change in the online world. This is Part one of P.T. Barnum’s golden rules applied to making money online.

Stack of moneyP.T. Barnum’s book The Art of Money Getting was written long time ago but if you take time to read it, you will find out a lot of sound advice and sometimes, it will look as if the book was written yesterday. Some of the principles stated in his book are a perfect fit for the world of online moneymaking.

The fact is, many people think they understand economy when they really do not.

Barnum’s principles apply to all the various ways of making money online. I will try to focus only on application to making money by writing online.

Don’t Mistake Your Vocation

The secret to success online is same as the secret to success offline – it is the Passion. Without passion, you can dabble with this and that, but you will never succeed. Writing about things you do not understand and topics that do not evoke strong feelings in you, will never make you a respected author. When you write about whatever you are passionate about, the words will flow on their own and you will feel unstoppable. It might seem strange but you will usually make more money if your first goal is to get the word out than if your first goal is to make money from your writing. Keyword research can only take you so far...

Select The Right Location

There are many ways for you to get your writings online and make money out of them. There are literarily thousands of free web hosting sites, free blog providers, revenue-sharing article sites, as well as numerous paid-hosting solutions and your own self-hosted blogs. Selecting the right location (or more often, the wrong location) can make or break your online writing business.

If you are just starting and SEO is just a strange three-letter abbreviation to you, you would do best to start with revenue sharing sites because they will do most of the difficult work of site maintenance and search engine rankings for the share in revenue. Once you learn all the quirks, you can start your own blog but you will probably continue writing for the sites like Wizzley simply because it is a great way to promote your writings elsewhere.

Persevere

Making money by writing online articles is not something that will make you money overnight. Most people try making money online by writing 3 – 10 articles and then just give up because they do not see money swamping their AdSense account. Writing online is not get-rich-quick scheme. It takes a lot of time, passion and above all, persistence to earn serious money from your online articles. Perseverance is the key to the success and one quality you must cultivate within yourself.

Whatever You Do, Do It With All Your Might

Writing a new article every other week will build your article base, but will not make too much money. If you want to be serious about making money by writing articles, you have to focus and persistently post at least three quality posts every week. Being lazy is no way to succeed. Having a writing schedule and sticking to it is something you must do if you want to gain respect and large readers population.

Writing your every article as it is your last will make every one of them worthy of reading and, in the online world that means worthy of sharing. When you write, write with all your might and prove that the pen is mightier than the sword!

Depend Upon Your Own Personal Exertions

There are many sites on the net where you can hire freelancers who will write any kind of article you want. It would be really bad to start your online writing business by hiring somebody else to do the writing for you. You must find your “voice,” your special way of writing that will attract people and make them respect you. Once you become established, you can always outsource part of your work but if you consider yourself a writer, best thing you could outsource is SEO and internet marketing. Writing, you should keep for yourself.

Use The Best Tools

Posting your writings online without previously running a spelling, grammar and style check is a way to ruin. Poorly worded articles full of spelling and grammar mistakes are the fastest possible way to lose visitors and respectability.

In addition, not all writing and social bookmarking sites are created equal. You can waste too much time and energy using wrong tools. Select your online writing platform carefully and utilize only a few of the best social bookmarking sites in order to increase your articles ratings.

Don’t Get Above Your Business

Once you mange to learn enough about Search Engine Optimization, conquer social networks, dominate all the social bookmarking sites, you will be in a great position to lose everything. One of the worst mistakes you can make is to start thinking how you have enough evergreen articles online and that you need not write any more or that there is no need to promote your writing since you are already famous.

Once you establish yourself as an online authority, you will be able to have an extended holiday but you should never stop writing. Even when you are on a vacation, you should monitor your online earnings and write new stuff even if it is just your favorite holiday experience. Fresh content and support for your audience is necessary to keep you at the top.

Learn Something Useful

Read what other people are writing and try to learn at least one new thing every day. No matter how small, no matter how irrelevant fact you might learn today, in the future it could help you create success with ease.

As a human being, you should never stop learning. Fresh ideas are the best guide to the future...

This is only part one. In Part two of these rules and principles of money making you can read all the nice ideas about when to avoid being too visionary, staying focused and systematic as well as importance of internet marketing and integrity. I would welcome all comments...

Excellent overview. It is encouraging to read about someone who is making sales online and to know that perseverance is the key. As Nemo might say "keep writing..keep writing".

Thanks. Yes, making money online requires dedication. With your proven track record, I am sure that you will achieve your goal and write 50 great Wizzley articles...

It took a good 50 articles on Squidoo before I started to see any money from my efforts. I now have over 100 and am getting sales every week. I'm glad I stuck with it and now my goal is to write at least 50 articles on Wizzley. I have a goal sheet stuck up on my pinboard and I love to add each new article to it - keeps me motivated. Thanks for a great read.

Writing one great Wizzle (and all your articles are really excellent) every day and still managing to keep up with several of your own sites is enormous success. What most people do not understand is that it also requires enormous effort and dedication.
