Toms was founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie. The company is based out of Santa Monica, California. They manufacture primarily lightweight shoes of the Argentine design. Mycoskie was on the second season of The Amazing Race with his sister. Shortly after the season ended, he traveled to Argentina where he was inspired to start a company that would give back to the community. He was inspired by Argentina style and decided to start a company that manufactured lightweight shoes. For every pair of shoes sold he would donate one pair to a child in need. He called it the One for One Movement. So far there have been over 1 Million pairs of shoes donated to children in need.

Why shoes?
Mycoskie felt that children were being kept out of schools and were being subjected to too many diseases because they did not have shoes to wear. He wanted to make a difference in the world and provide shoes for those children. Shoes are a very basic thing and an easy solution to disease prevention.
He has recently started a line of sunglasses too. With every purchase of a pair of sunglasses he will donate medical care or prescription glasses to a child in need.
Involving Others
Every year Toms hosts One Day Without Shoes. This is a day where people go without shoes to understand what it is like for children who do not have shoes. Last year more than 250,000 people participated. The event usually takes place in early April.

Brenda - I am the same way with shoes. My girls take after me too. They would wear flip flops in the snow if I let them. I thought the story behind the shoes was an inspiring one and a good story to tell. He has done a great thing...not many people think of others this day and age.

I can't believe how popular they have become around here. They are a great shoe but not real flashy. Just a simple slide on shoe. I thought these were good prices too compared to what I have seen at the mall. Might have to jump on a pair of those wedges now.

Oh my youngest is going to love the grey ballet flat, she has worn the pair she got this fall out, she wears them every where and wears them out, she's really hard on shoes. Great shoes as toms are great quality, those she just wore out serves as a reminder as they were not toms, toms are durable and long lasting.
