What a Hippie Smells Like

by katiem2

What does a hippy smell like, what is that scent. Learn the sixties smell that describes a hippy upon first whiff.

A hippie is someone who rejected the established culture; practice or believed in living by extreme liberalism in both politics and life choices in general. I must admit there is a great deal I admire about hippies the free spirited people of the love and peace era.

The peace loving flower child of the sixties may well have created the most unique and highly honored social set of all times. The coolest image anyone might think of related to a hippie could be peace signs and brightly colored flowers painted upon a Volkswagen van. Today we discuss the topic of hippy scent. Do you know what I hippy smells like?

Just What's That Smell

Do you know what a hippy smells like?

I was recently told I smell like a hippy, now before you go there it's not because I'm some throw back author hiding out for weeks on end not bathing or combing my hair.

I get this a lot, people at the checkout, the grocery, the mall, the doctor’s office and on and on the sniffing goes.

It seems my scent congers up a reminiscent feelings stirring wonderment in those who smell me. They can't help but ask what's that you’re wearing.

I reply, nothing! I note the, she's lying, hint of dissatisfaction on their faces.

But really I say to myself, I am honestly wearing nothing but the soap and body oil I use fresh out of the shower to treat my delicate fare skin prone to drying.

Then like a bolt it hit me, it’s my body oil. I’d worn it for so long I mindlessly used this hippy potion without thinking about the very ingredients hippies were famous for slathering in as opposed to taking a bath or shower.

I wear Zum Body frankincense and myrrh body oil.

Do Hippies Bath?

It's been said hippies would go for long periods of time not bathing.

It the frankincense and myrrh my body oil contains. It is very reminiscent patchouli a scent I’ve learned the hippies used back in the sixties. It was rumored they bathed far less than most others common did back then. The scent of patchouli was common used for body spray oil for scent and burned in incense burners. These pungent scents were believed to be used to cover up the illegal organic plant they smoked. I can't say if this is true as I didn't live during the sixties, the time of free love and peace.  The images of those times gone past are very appealing to me. While I can't speak from experience.

I do have something in common with hippies, I'm all natural.  I don't wear chemicals, perfumes and colognes give me a headache.  I don't wear deodorants or anti-perspiration products but I do use natural alternative methods.

I feel, no I know these products have many cancer causing agents in them and opt to keep such harmful ingredients from being absorbed through my skin. Regardless we now know what a hippy smells like or once did I should say.

Peace, Love and Joy!

The information and the product lines are believable and convincing. Me too, I like the emphasis on the natural, except in the case of such natural smells as way too much perspiration!

I was on the line, just too young to be a hippie. I adopted some hippie practices in the early 70s but that is all. I did burn incense and loved that smell.

I confess it was before my time but I think we all wonder what it would be like to be a hippy from time to time, especially us liberal types.

teddletonmr on 11/20/2012

Yes, No, Maybe so, I might even be a hippy myself, not telling

I actually came of age immediately after the hippie era. We were called freaks. The smoking of the long herb of enlightenment continued as if it were still hippie times. Women and even some men wore patchouli. I honestly like the scent.

I was too young for Woodstock, but wore the oils, love incense, and still love much of the music.

I have blocked out the smell, but I certainly was there - bell-bottoms with extra material sewn in to make them bigger, and all!

I remember hippies in the early 70's, I was only a child bet remember it vividly, my older sister's best friend was a hippy.

I have been told I smell like a hippie. I'm constantly using essential oils for my products, as well as laundry, cleaning and more. I bathe, but I use many of my own oils as deodorant.

katiem2, What is the yuppy smell?

JeanBakula on 01/22/2013

I think it's the Patchouli and Sandlewood Oil. I friend who still slathers it on. I've moved on to other scents. Also, Nag Champa incense. Marijuana too, if their state allows it and they still indulge :)
