7 Essentials For Your Summer Waredrobe

If you’re a serial black-on-black offender, transitioning your wardrobe to Summer can be daunting.

If you’re a serial black-on-black offender, transitioning your wardrobe to Summer can be daunting. Trends to keep in mind this Summer include timeless nautical navys and stripes, everything 70’s from boho to Bowie, daring denim dresses, skirts, shirts and jackets and the comfortable cool of sport luxe. It’s time to let go of the structured layers and soft blanket coats we swathed ourselves in this Winter and embrace the softer side of the tailoring trend with loose separates and shirtdresses. To help you cut the cord, here are 7 essentials to get you started on your Summer wardrobe.

1. White Jeans:

The white out trend is still huge and you can pair your white jeans with a white boyfriend shirt or ruffled shell top to rock it or just enjoy the versatility of white jeans with absolutely anything in your wardrobe.  Crisp and fresh, white denim will go with your favourite tee or team up with stripes and a blazer for a classic nautical look.

2. Sandals:

Let your feet breathe easy this summer in some Birkenstocks, strappy flats or give the gladiator revival a whirl.  This season’s gladiator sandals comfortably lace up the leg at varying heights rather than zip-up like the restrictive styles we’ve suffered previously.  Heading to a Summer wedding or event?  Wedge sandals are a great alternative to ankle-snapping pumps, they will keep your tootsies happy on the most challenging of terrains and give you a bit of height so you’re not a shrinking violet in the group photo.

3. Wide-Legged Pants:

Don’t be scared to give some wide-legged pants a go, there are designs running the full gamut from breezy, palazzo to polished, high-waisted numbers.  If you’re short, make sure you wear full-length styles with some killer heels, otherwise there are a plethora of cropped designs to choose between, from culottes to skorts, that will work with your favourite sneakers or loafers.  Stay safe with solid black or white or experiment with geometric prints and florals from an online fashion boutique.

4. Statement Skirts:

A-line, denim, wrap, asymmetric and suede all feature in this summer’s lineup.  70’s influences are at play in the denim and suede a-line skirts as well at the pleated midi-lengths and recurring maxi styles.  Eye-catching printed wrap skirts spice up a plain tee or button-down shirt for effortless chic.

5. Fringed Bags:

Boho chic goes hippie luxe this season with tassels, fringes and ruffles adorning jackets, dresses and leathergoods.  Everything from hobos, cross-body bags, totes and bucket bags are be-fringed and tasseled in rich suedes and soft leathers.  Look out for accessories in white and ecru hues for a dressier twist on your favourite festival look.

6. Shirting:

Slouchy boyfriend button-through shirt styles are still favourites and there are lots of variations on sleeves, pockets, yokes, shoulder cut-outs and even a few epaulets to keep things interesting.  The shirtdress is a welcome progression which easily slips into your Summer wardrobe with some sandals and a fringed bucket bag.

7. Crop Tops:

There’s no need to bare-all to crop your top, to add height to a short physique pair sleek cropped shell tops with high-waisted pants and skirts for an elegant take on the trend.  Cropped tops in block colours, embellishments, stripes and prints are all there for you to attempt.  If you’re still feeling shy, you can layer a boxy crop with loose longer lengths for an edgy Summer look.
