The best selling adjustable wrench comes form Stanley - so we're looking for the usual quality with this hand tool. Happily - happily, you won't have to look too hard. Manufactured from forged steel alloy, it's tough, practical and reliable. It's a breeze to adjust, meets current ANSI standards and has a good weight and feel about it.

The jaws do their jaw - once locked onto a bolt they respond well when you apply the torque - no slipping or stuttering around whatever's in its grasp. It does what it needs to do, won't fall apart if it goes crashing to the floor - and can also be used as a pair of locking pliers. Well crafted, good standard construction - and it's a Stanley hand tool. One to buy.

This adjustable wrench comes from Bosch - and you'll either love it or loathe it. Auto-adjusting, the design is pretty innovative and simple enough to work with but - some of us like our tools to work the old fashioned way. This one doesn't. That said - it works, it grips whatever you need it to and retains its grip when you start applying some torque.

It's manufactured from tempered steel, so it's rugged enough to tackle most tasks - if not all. It will work with bolts up to and including 1-1/4", and works by way of a pair of AAA batteries and a push button located on the handle, just below the head. An auto-wrench that almost does the work for you. Affordable, works - good for general around the house stuff.

Another Stanley adjustable wrench - this one with a nice comfortable grip to the handle. This one's a 6 inch wrench, and it's also available as an 8, 10 and 12" model. Manufactured from chrome vanadium steel, it's definitely made of tough stuff - and doesn't appear to mind the odd trip to the floor. The handle is coated with a cushioned grip that is as slip resistant as Stanley tells us - and it's simple to operate.

It's an industry standard hand tool, meeting ANSI guidelines, so it's practical for use by either a pro or home user. You can feel the difference between a cushioned handle and a non-cushioned when you start applying torque - it definitely feels as though you're not letting go any time soon. Nicely designed, good and sturdy and affordable.

This is a set of four adjustable wrenches, the set covers from 6 up to 12" wrenches. They're made from forged heat treated steel , so they're a rugged set and up to handling the tough stuff - and adjusting them is easy enough. The heads are also rust resistant and though when tested they're hardly used in the long term, there's no reason to suppose the claim won't stand up.

Each one has the handle well cushioned and the grip they provide is plenty good enough when you're using them to tighten and loosen bolts. All round this is a decent quality set, the four will cover most bases and for 15 bucks you're getting the right amount of value for your money.

This is the best selling small adjustable wrench and it proved useful when need a wrench in a tight spot. The lack of handle length doesn't seem to affect the ability to use it when apply the torque and it feels surprisingly study for such a short handle.

It's constructed out of hardened heavy duty steel and the handle gives a good grip. It has metric and standard measurements lasered onto both sides of the head  and it's a dual purpose model - you can reverse the jaws and use it as a pipe wrench. Well made, inexpensive, gets the job done.
