Amal Alamuddin Clooney

Born February 3, 1978 in Beirut, Lebanon to Ramzi Alamuddin (father) owner of a successful travel agency and Bariaa Alamuddin (mother) a newspaper editor and founder of a public relations company. She has one sister and two half-brothers from her father's first marriage.

Amal was two years old when the Alamuddin family left Lebanon and relocated to London, England. She attended a girls grammar school in Buckinghamshire then continued on to St. Hugh's College, Oxford where she received a scholarship.

In 2000 Ms. Alamuddin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Jurisprudence from St. Hugh's. One year later in 2001 she enrolled in New York University School of Law where she studied for the Master of Laws degree.

Amal is fluent in Arabic, French and English.

As a lawyer and barrister

In New York City Ms. Alamuddin worked at the law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell as a member of their Criminal Defense and Investigations Group where among her clients were Enron and Arthur Anderson.

While in New York she also worked in the Office of the Prosecutor at the United Nations Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

Upon her return to the United Kingdom in 2010, Alamuddin accepted a position as a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers. She has been appointed to several United Nations commissions and has been involved in a number of high-profile cases including one as an adviser into the use of drones in counter-terrorism.

As a teacher

In 2015 she gave lectures about human rights litigation at Columbia Law School's Human Rights Institute. She also lectured students at the University of London, The New School in New York and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on international criminal law.

In April of 2014 Amal Alamuddin became engaged to marry an actor named George Clooney, and in September of the same year the couple married. Mr. & Mrs. Clooney were wed at city hall in Venice, Italy by a former mayor of Venice. A glamorous star-studded wedding ceremony had already taken place two days prior. The ceremony was heavily covered by the media, probably because it involved her husband George Clooney.
