Aprilaire Whole House Humidifier Review

I've recently moved cross country and having lived most of my life in the humid south, I now have the opposite problem I noticed both my skin and my wooden furniture drying out and cracking. Next I developed a persistant cough, and my doctor suggested that I check out a whole house humidifier. So I got online and came up with what I think is the best humidifier available.

So what caught my eye, and what I finally bought, was the Aprilaire Whole House Humidifier .

Having decided to buy a whole house humidifier rather than just a portable unit I needed a machine that would can moisten the air of up to 4,200 square feet. Also I really wanted a unit with fully automatic control so I can pretty much set it and forget. I can also keep an eye on the house's levels of humidity and temperature, it took a couple of goes for me to find the best settings, but I've pretty much got it set right now. Because of the size of my home I needed the more powerful Aprilaire Model 700, but for many homes the smaller 600 model would be adequate. 

The Aprilaire also has an outdoor temperature sensor that is able to monitor even the slightest change in the temperature outside so it can automatically adjust the moistureit provides inside the home. It also has an evaporation capacity of 0.75 gallons per hour. This is the amount of water that the Aprilaire 700 can handle. This is important to make sure that there would be no excess water in the air since this can also create molds and other harmful things at home. The evaporation capacity of the Aprilaire 700 humidifier is among the few that has the largest capacity among all other brands. This also humidifies the air 50 % more than other brands out in the market.

The Aprilaire 700 automatic whole house humidifier powered with digital control also has a built-in blower activation relay. This allows the unit to be installed in places with tight spaces. They instructions are not kidding when the “recommend” not to install the Aprilaire unit horizontally – it will ruin its performance! 

Speaking of installation – although its recommended to get your humidifier installed professionally, we saved ourselfves about $250 and did it ourselves.  Its perfectly possible for an experienced home handyman to install it themselves with just a few supplies. 

Technical Specs

Both the Aprilaire 600 and 700 Humidifiers measures  16 x 11 x 18 inches.

The 700 model weighs in at 16.2 pounds. While the 600 is only 8.5lbs. The main difference is the evaporative rate: the 600 provides a rate of 0.70 GPH while the 700 is a far more powerful 0.75.
