Ok we can agree the KA artisan series mixers, last the average person’s lifetime. Many simply do not cook all that much, and buying an inexpensive model like the Sunbeam 5-speed 250-watt stand and hand mixer makes the most sense. Kitchen Aid VS Sunbeam Mixer

The KA artisan is a definite statement piece, where the Sunbeam fills the inexpensive niche.

5-Quart KA Artisan VS 3-Quart Sunbeam

Set-up on the counter as a statement piece, or hide away in the cupboard until needed.

In the interest of full disclosure, my wife and I received the Kitchen Aid Stand mixer and attachments as a wedding gift, oh so many moons ago. We choose to Display the thing on one corner of the kitchen counter. Beside our huge family sized side-by-side refrigerator. Due in large part, my dear wife chooses not to try and rustle the thing into, and out of the cupboard every time she needs to use it, and believe you me she uses it all the time.

Did I say my wife loves to bake? Actually, she confided in me it is her way of dealing with all the stresses of the day. Let me assure you, as a high school math and German teacher she has her share of drama.

One thing is for sure, anytime one of her students has a birthday, Carolyn bakes them a cake or bunch of cookies, their choice. Another thing anytime one of the local organizations we support has a bake sale, my dear wife bakes something. Our local Boy Scout troop has its annual spaghetti dinner, yes, as I am sure, you have already guessed my dear wife goes to work baking all manner of tasty treats, a variety of cakes, dozens of cookies, pumpkin, and zucchini breads and the like.

Our Kitchen Aid doesn't stop there, oh yes it really does much more.

Using the FGA, food grinder attachment making our own freshly ground venison, beef, or turkey is a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Simply read and follow the included instructions and the thing really does a good job.

Making our own breakfast or summer sausage, mix meats, favorite seasonings and cheeses, stuff the mixture in fresh casings and fire up the smoker.

Using the RVSA slicer/shredder attachment makes short work of slicing a basket full of cucumbers when making dill pickle slices. Shredding a lot of carrots, pound of cheese or cabbage is quicker and easier than using the ole box grader/shredder knuckle getter, been there, done that.

Let’s be honest. Most busy people today have far too many things going on in their lives and have absolutely no interest in doing all that kind of stuff. Whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies from time to time, or fix a box cake mix is all they have interest in doing. That is ok, the inexpensive line of Sunbeam mixers will get that job done, cost less and will easily fit in a cupboard safely stored out of sight.

What is The Best Stand Mixer?

Tips to establish your wants, needs, likes, and dislikes before you buy.
  • Ask yourself, how often will I actually use, and what will I want a mixer to do. Occasionally trying a new cake mix, cookie, or mashed potato recipe at Thanksgiving or Christmas makes it hard to justify spending a lot of money on a Kitchen Aid. When the Sunbeam stand and hand mixer combination will easily do that job, and save you a lot of money in the process.
  • Are you overly concerned with styling, color, overall appearance, and making a certain statement? Frugal people never spend money on style before function. Conversely, setting an inexpensive looking kitchen appliance on a new custom counter top may send the wrong message. Worry not, display a nice bowl of fruit in the place of a Kitchen Aid stand mixer you rarely use and send your own healthy lifestyle message.
  • Like to bake several times a week, knead bread dough, several batches of cookies, and baking large birthday cakes your thing, you will not go wrong choosing the Kitchen Aid mixer. On the other hand, in the event you only need a mixer for a few special occasions each year. The Sunbeam FPSBHS030 is a good inexpensive easy to use stand mixer you will enjoy using on all those special occasions.

Arlene, The kitchen aid is a great mixer, I confess I too have one and it is a beautiful addition to my kitchen counter, I never put it away. I highly recommend spending the money on the kitchen aid, if you can afford it. It last forever...

Hey Katie, Looking for a good little food processor, you can pick-up for under $100. The Cuisinart classic 7-cup food processor I believe would make a budding chef happy.
Here is a link to help you find one before Christmas. http://amzn.to/12kB4nY
Hope it helps, Merry Christmas and make it a great new year. Mike

Hey Mike, What brand of food processor would you recommend? I have one to buy as an end of my list things to buy and don't know which type to buy. It will be for a sixteen year old budding chef so I don't want to go high end. Any advice?

Inexpensive and easy to Use and store in a cupboard, the sunbeam combination stand and hand mixer is a great kitchen gadget.
Less than, shoot it is on sale for $30 at amazon, that puts the frosting on the cake. :) What could be better?

katiem2 on 11/17/2012

Well I know I couldn't live without either a hand mixer or a stand mixer so what I'm saying is I like the Sunbeam that works both as a hand mixer and a stand mixer. :)K

We love our Kitchen Aid stand mixer, like katiem2 we do find times when a good hand mixer is a handy kitchen gadget.

Nice article. I love my stand mixer. So much better then the hand mixer.

Hey @katiem2 I know what you mean, mixing up a small batch of waffel batter is easy and more fun for the kids when using the hand mixer. That is of course, untill one of the kids has all their friends over for a sleep over and we need to make a quadruple batch. :) M

I have the kitchen aid you've highlighted BUT I also have a much cheaper hand mixer that I use more often than my kitchen aid. I don't like getting it all dirty when it is commonly simpler and less messy to use a bowl and hand mixer. I absolutely love the feature allowing the ability to take the mixer off using it as you would a hand mixer, brilliant. :)K
