Definitely yes! Bears are often hanging about in our yard in early spring and whenever there's a ripe fruit crop. I usually pick our fruit before it's ripe so as not to encourage them. But they have good memories and very sharp noses!

How to Write the First Line in Fiction
Technically you only need to do it for the very first line, but it can't hurt to do it for all of them. It's also good to leave each chapter on a bit of a cliff-hanger, even if it's only a subtle one.
