A Trip to the Smoky Mountains
Dustytoes, wading was out this year. Rains had the streams running faster than normal, as evidenced by the waterfall that normally is much less of a flow.

BSG, that sure augments my image of the Smoky Mountains. Thank you.

Across the Roof of Wales
The names are Welsh, and I suppose that as I have often visited Wales [my daughter lives there now] I have become used to them, so they do roll off my tongue.I don't speak Welsh, though I can read signs in it without bothering with English ...

Those names! Do they roll off your tongue easily? Sounds like a lovely area.

A Trip to the Smoky Mountains
I've been to the Smoky Mountains and stayed in a log cabin. We visited Cades Cove, and did the loop. We were close to the state park and waded in the streams. It's a beautiful area with lots of black bears!

A Trip to the Smoky Mountains
Frank, these are small mountains compared to many. There is no snow cap, and no tree line. The foliage covers them to the top. They are very old mountains, and were caused by two land masses coming together due to continental drift. They are ...

A Trip to the Smoky Mountains
I have always wondered what the Smoky Mountains were like, because when I was a child there was a Country and Western Music programme on the radio, which I liked, called Smoky Mountain Jamboree. A nice programme and the Smoky Mountains seem a ...

Fires, though unwelcome to us are part of the life cycle of a forest, so left to its own devices forest will regenerate, as the Smoky Mountains did.But we can always lend a helping hand. What I am saying does not excuse arson or carelessness ...

A Trip to the Smoky Mountains
One interesting thing is the environmental concerns of the area. The motel had a square waste basket with two triangular inserts, one for recycling and one for waste. Such a container was also found elsewhere in the area. And, on the way ...

It is always the on-going consequences of these actions that are the worst thing.... the environment, the wildlife, the effect on victims' families , the effect on culprits' families. Just terrible.

I believe it was two teens and fireworks were used. Apparently the fire started in a remote area, and burned for days.

I can't understand why people would do that. Hopefully nature will take over and win in the end, restoring the area to its natural self. Your national Park service sounds similar to ours. IT helps stop over-commercialisation.

A Trip to the Smoky Mountains
In 2016 the area came close to being lost. Two people set a fire that burned much, and several people died. The trees are charred on one side in some areas, and some of the tree tops are brown. But, most of the area is doing well. As for ...

A Trip to the Smoky Mountains
This is beautiful. It is comforting to think that there are so many places of beauty left in this over commercialised world. Once again I feel like I am a world tour with Wizzley. The waterfall is beautiful. There are not many large waterfalls ...

Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Walk, Cumbria
I think that " boardwalk " has an older usage in English. WE would say footpath..... pathway.... It is interesting that certain old English words which transferred across the Atlantic have survived in America but not in English. "Broadwalk" ...
