Camelbak Mule Review - In Depth

Pros and Cons...

The Camelbak M.U.L.E. might just be the best light weight hydration system on the market for versatile outdoor adventuring.

PROS

Not Just a Water Carrier: Hands down my favorite feature of the Camelbak Mule is its added ability to carry light equipment, accessories, and extra clothing. Especially when I start a hike early in the morning and need to "disrobe" as the day goes on, the bonus storage capacity helps significantly.

Lightweight: Despite the added cargo capacity, the whole system is light weight and aerodynamic (if that matters to you). All the straps and cinch down cleanly and efficiently, evenly spreading the weight across your back. Most days I don't even notice it is there. The Mule is really like an extension of my body.

Great for Biking or Climbing: The added compartment for easy helmet storage does not go unnoticed. It is easy to transition from the bike to walking without having to awkwardly carry the helmet. Similarly, when doing the initial climb to a rock face its nice to have the helmet securely attached to the pack.

Plenty of Water Storage: This is why most people buy hydration systems. The Camelbak Mule does not disappoint. It even has a wide enough mouth to accept chunks of ice to keep water cool all day long.

Solid Value: It's not cheap, but it also isn't too pricey either. Depending on the color, the Mule will run you between $85-120. On Amazon it is the cheapest

CONS

Not a Backpack: It is hard to find any negative reviews of this hydration system. The one thing customers sometimes regret is that it is not as big as they expected. This is a hydration system first, folks. The added storage capacity is significant, but it will not replace a full out backpack. If you know what you are getting, you will not be disappointed. This is simply put one of the best Camelbaks on the market.
