Cordless Power Tool Reviews

by Tested_to_Destruction

A cordless power tools comparison for those looking to buy the best power tools on the market. These are recommended, worthy of the price and give a great return on investment.

There's a lot to be said for cordless power tools. Coupled with the right cordless drill batteries, a cordless drill or similar is an awesome power tool to have to hand. Some of the more powerful run off a 28v battery, which delivers some seriously ramped up force.

Lacking the need for a power outlet, a cordless tool is handy in a tight spot, can be used just about anywhere you need it to and the ones on the current market are reliable, well designed and affordable.

They range from the type better applied to hobby tasks, to the industrial standard tools that can be found in the hands of pro tradesman around the country. They're great for woodwork, plumbing, remodeling and more.

Dremel 8000-03 10.8-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Rotary Tool

The best of the small cordless power tools is the Dremel 8000. This is the one for small, detailed work and comes in for crafting, wood work, household and vehicle work. It's come a long way since its inception and Dremel have found a way of getting round the loss of power issue that sent buyers elsewhere when they brought out the cordless model.

This one's run off a 10.8v lithium battery, which is plenty powerful for such a small hand power tool. The speed's variable, running from 5000 to 35000rpm - impressive. It looks better than its predecessors and it feels and handles like a mini power house when you let it do its job. The accessory kit is extensive - 40 pieces in all and in that you'll find enough bits and pieces to polish, clean, sharpen, sand, cut, drill and a whole lot more of other good stuff. For the price, you're getting a whole lot of return on your investment - plus you won't find it cheaper elsewhere - I checked. Free shipping makes it even more of a bargain.

Milwaukee 2691-22 18-Volt Compact Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit

The best cordless impact drill power tool is the Milkaukee Combo. In a nutshell it's an outstanding all rounder that delivers a jaw dropping amount of power and punch. What can I say - I love Milwaukee. And I'm not alone - the brand itself is known for its consistency, its ability to develop and define each and every one of its products. Whilst you may not be spending the least, you know you're buying into the quality power tool market.

This one moves seamlessly between impact and drill tasks, and is powered along by an awesome 18v battery that throws out some seriously impressive torque. The lithium-ion battery is lightweight yet long lasting, the design feels good and solid in-hand - and its got some neat features missing on comparable tools. The glow ring on the impact driver is handy, the battery has a true power indicator and rubber friction protection down the sides offers extra comfort. The best combo drill set on the market and the price is unbeatable - a keeper.

Makita BDF452HW 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2-Inch Driver-Drill Kit

The Makita is the best cordless power driver on the market, not least because it's a fine piece of engineering. The whole power tool is pure class, from the ergonomic design to the user friendly feel and balance. It's lightweight, it's powered by a rapid charging lithium-ion battery pack and will work as hard as you do. The torque is pretty awesome at 450 in.lbs and it's got a variable 0-400 / 0-1500rpm. The whole kit comes in an extremely durable case and the real kicker is the price versus value for money.

For the money, you get the driver, the tool case, an adapter and two rechargeable batteries. Now - I've said it before and I'll say it again - two batteries are always better than one. Reason being you've got one working, one on charge. And batteries alone can cost around $65 or more for a single unit. With this deal, you're getting two, plus the driver and the rest, for under $185. That's a very big bang for your buck.

Black & Decker NLP1800 Alligator Lopper 18-Volt Cordless Chain Saw

This is the best cordless chain saw power tool that's got a lot to offer. It's a five star rated landscaping tool that will make short work of a myriad of pruning task - whether you're a hobby gardener or in the landscaping trade. The 18v battery delivers enough vigor to wade through a small forest and providing you purchase a spare battery, you'll find you don't have to stop.

It feels like a dynamo when it's in motion and manages to reduce fallen branches into twigs without issue. You don't need to force or help it along - powered up, it knows what it's doing and gets stuck in readily enough. Overall, it's a low maintenance tool, surprisingly quite and at it's current price, one of the best bargains around. A top rated graden tool.

Black & Decker PD600 Pivot Plus 6-Volt Nicad Cordless Screwdriver with Articulating Head

This is the best cordless screwdriver and it's got to be one of the most straightforward tools available. There's no mess, no fuss. It doesn't do anything other than drive screws in - or out - of whatever you're working on. The torque, which is 80 in./lbs, is driven by a decent 8v battery and the variable speed options present you with a high level of control.

For its size it does a pretty awesome job of power driving screws, no effort needed from you and the size/weight/design makes it feel good in your hand - lightweight yet solid. The handle is lockable in three positions, giving you wider flexibility when working and the LED is definitely welcome when you're in a poorly lit tight spot. On the whole, an absolutely cracking little power tool, well worth the 30 bucks or so.

Black & Decker PD600 Pivot Plus 6-Volt Nicad Cordless Screwdriver with Articulating Head

We can't think of anything we'd want to add to this little hummer. It's incredible what B&D has engineered into this system (we don't think it's fair to call it a "screwdriver")...
