Try the Corkcicle - a new way to keep your wine chilled

CORKCICLE - Nominated By Gifts.com As 2011 Gift Of The Year

Have you heard of a Corkcicle? This little gadget has featured on the Today Show as well as Epicurious, New York Magazine, Gizmodo, Wired, LA Weekly, MetroSource, USA Today Online, and many other blogs and online media.

It looks like a giant icicle with a cork on the end and basically, you use it to keep your wine chilled when you want to keep it on the table rather than returning it to the fridge. The pros are that it saves you from having to use an ice bucket which can can get messy and is more effective than a sleeve chiller. And it also takes up a lot less space in your cupboard than a wine bucket- well no space at all actually. The cons are that it doesn't actually chill the wine from scratch it just maintains the temperature once it is already cold.

Where the Corkcicle will come into its own for all you winos wine connoisseurs is in the summer months, when you're having barbecues and entertaining outside as you won't have to worry about your wine getting warm in the sun. Another good use for it would be when you go on a picnic and want a nice chilled bottle of white with you.

How To Use A Corkcicle

To prepare your corkcicle for use you need to leave it in the freezer for at least two hours. As I said, it doesn't actually chill the wine from room temperature so you need to have your wine chilling too. When you have opened your wine replace the cork or screw top with your corkcicle - you will need to have poured some of the wine first or your bottle will end up overflowing and you don't want that.

When you need a top up, either remove the corkcicle completely, tapping the end gently inside the neck of the bottle so it doesn't drip, or else take the corkcicle about half way out of the bottle and pour whilst holding it in place.

I think that's about all you need to know.

Chin chin.
