Dog Calendars for 2013

by Ragtimelil

It's just about time to get a calendar for the new year and what could be better than a dog calendar? There are some seriously unique calendars of dogs for 2013.

Whether or not you live with a dog, I would guess that you know someone who does. Dog calendars make perfect gifts. There are calendars of almost every breed imaginable and calendars galore of adorable puppies. For something a little different, check out dogs underwater and a dog joke a day.
I always have a calendar on my wall. I have to look at it often so why not have a pretty, or funny, pictures of my favorite animal. I've collected some of my favorites for your enjoyment.

Underwater Dogs

Discover Seth Casteel's unique underwater photography of dogs diving for a tennis ball and the hidden world of dogs under water.

This is, by far, one of the most popular calendars and with good reason. That noble looking dog looks totally hysterical underwater with ears billowing, feet paddling,  eyes bulging and lips waving in the water. Even cat lovers have claimed to enjoy these photographs. You will never look at your dog the same way again.

It measures 10.3 by 12.8 inches when folded.

Hero Dogs

In October 2011, the American Humane Association introduced the Hero Dogs Award. The award was to honor service dogs who have displayed exceptions courage and loyalty. This calendar displays the winner of the 2012 awards in full-color portraits such as Sage, a search and rescue dog who served in Iraq and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Not forgotten are dogs who are heroes closer to home such as therapy dogs who spend time in hospitals and nursing homes bringing love and cheer to the residents.

It measures 12 by 12 inches folded.

Dogma

Nationally recognized photographer Ron Schmidt photographs dogs with the added touch of maxims to live by. You'll love the clever quotes and the great photographs in this calendar. Schmidt's calendars have won many awards and with this year's contribution, should continue to do so. One of my favorites is the two dogs peering out of the back of a camper. The caption reads, "Life is an adventure that is meant to be shared."

The calender, printed with soy-based inks, measures 11.8 x 11.6 inches and is perfect for any wall, whether a dog lover's or not.

What Dogs Teach Us

This calendar is a delightful collection of 12 adorable dogs and text explaining what the lesson for the month is. The photographs themselves are charming, like the dalmatian playing with a black and white spotted ball and the giant great Dane and his little toy dog friend.

The calendar also comes with the moon phases and national holidays. You can buy it now since it comes with 4 bonus months, September through December 2012.

It measures 13 by 10.5 inches and would be a great addition to your wall or office.

Bad Dog

Dogs Gone Wild

If your taste runs more to the ridiculous, this might the the calender for you. There's a big assortment of dogs in costumes with silly titles. This is a collection of dogs in bad need of obedience school. A few are borderline risque so it might not be a good calendar for a youngster but that's your call.

This calendar is adapted from the best-selling Times book, Bad Dog, and measures 12 by 12 inches.

Man's Best Friend

The year wouldn't be complete without William Wegman's photographs of his photogenic weimaraners. This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of photographs with this calendar including vintage photos of his canine collaborator Fay Ray as well as recent photographs, of  Chundo and Candy, two more charming canines. It also includes some never before published drawings and a bonus poster.

This calendar measures 10.5 by 14.5 inches.

Dog Cartoon-a-Day

If you would rather have a daily calendar, check out this cartoon a day by Jonny Hawkins. The cartoons will have you starting each day with a chuckle if not a laugh out loud.

Hawkins is a freelance cartoonist residing in Sherwood, Michigan. He has been publishing his
His single panel cartoons since 1986 and they have appeared in over 600 publications including
calendars, humor books and  Chicken Soup for the Soul editions.

The calendar measures 5.5 by 5.4 by 1.8 inches

Thanks. I really looked for something besides the usual breed calendars. Those are nice too, but not as funny.

My first thought was all the breed calendars, but luckily I saw the dog under water first!

Great minds think alike. though yours is funnier. I'm afraid that I read the whole article in giggles, because of that very first picture! I'd just calmed down, when I got to the dog in rollerskates. <3
