As a kid mom would serve us eggnog, out of a carton. In adulthood I ditched the carton eggnog and started making it. Here are my favorite alcoholic and non-alcoholic eggnog recipe.
Eggnog - A Holiday Tradition
Drinking eggnog is a holiday tradition in many households. As a kid mom use to serve it to us in a carton. When I reached adulthood I ditched the carton eggnog and started making my own. Throughout the years I've served several different eggnog recipes at my holiday parties, both alcoholic and non alcoholic eggnog recipes. Here are the eggnog recipes that my guests enjoyed the most.
Classic Eggnog
Alcoholic Recipe
Eggnog Ingredients:
- 4 eggs, separated
- 2 cups sugar, divided in half
- 1 cup dark rum
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup bourbon
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream, divided in half
- Ground nutmeg for garnishing
Eggnog Direction:
- Separate the egg yolks and egg whites. Put in 2 separate bowls.
- Beat 1/2 cup sugar into the egg yolk bowl; set aside.
- Beat egg whites until stiff and then stir in the other 1/2 cup of sugar.
- Pour the egg yolks into the egg whites; mix slowly.
- Stir in the rum.
- Slowly stir in the milk.
- Stir in the bourbon
- Slowly stir in half of the heavy whipping cream.
- Whip the other half of the heavy whipping cream into a bowl and then fold it into the mixture
- Garnish the eggnog with ground nutmeg.
Eggnog For A Large Crowd
Serves 20 people
Eggnog Ingredients:
- 12 large eggs divide the egg yolks and whites
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 7 cups milk
- 2 cups rum
- 1 cup whiskey
- Ground nutmeg for garnish
- In a medium bowl, beat the egg whites.
- Add in 1 cup sugar and beat until mixture becomes thick.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks and salt until is becomes thick.
- Combine the egg whites and yolks together: beat until it becomes thick.
- In a separate bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until it starts to thicken.
- Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and the vanilla to the cream.
- Add the milk, rum, and whiskey; beat.
- Combine all the ingredients; chill.
- Pour eggnog into chilled glasses and garnish with nutmeg.
Eggnog Punch
Non-Alcoholic
This is a delicious float like eggnog that is served in a punch bowl. Kids love this!
Eggnog Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 3 cups frozen orange juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 3 cups vanilla ice cream
- 2 cups Ginger Ale (cold, not warm)
Eggnog Directions:
- Mix the frozen orange juice according to the package; chill.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together; mix well.
- Stir in the frozen orange juice and lemon juice; mix well.
- Pour the mixture into a punch bowl.
- Pour the Ginger ale into the punch bowl; gently stir untl mixed well.
- Spoon the vanilla ice cream into a punch bowl.
Serves 15-20
Vegan Eggnog
Alcoholic or Non-Alcoholic
Note: For non-alcholic vegan eggnog, omit the brandy
Vegan Eggnog Ingredients:
- 2 10.5-oz. pkgs. soft, silken tofu
- 16 oz. vanilla soy milk or rice milk
- 1 Tbs. plus 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 Tbs. brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground turmeric
- 1/2 to 1 cup brandy
- Ground nutmeg for garnish
Vegan Eggnog Ingredients:
- Pour all the ingredients, except the ground nutmeg, into a blender. Blend, stopping occasionally to scrape.
- Pour the eggnog into chilled glasses and garnish with nutmeg.
