This is the best selling 3 inch forstner bit and about the best choice for drilling larger flat bottomed holes. Again this is a quality bit that will drill through a range of different wood material, accurately and equally happy to work off an existing hole or will drill out with no prior set up.

This one needs to be used with a drill press. You simply won't get the accuracy with a hand-held, the bit is too wide and the shank too long. A drill press provides you with the right guide and control, something you won't get trying to free-hand. It does get hot, more so when used repeatedly but it remains accurate and spot on and you're left with more than pleasing results. Solid bit, well made and up to a standard in keeping with its purchase price.

The larger bits will require you to use a drill press, otherwise you won't get the control and accuracy you're looking for, the smaller ones will work perfectly well with standard power drill.
