Yeah!
Viglink have paid me my first earnings. OK, so it's only 9 cents, which might get lost in conversion to UK £ sterling, but it's a start.
I'm being serious, not sarcastic. I've only got Viglink recommendations on a couple of pages, and I've not got many pages on Wizzley yet, but I remember when I only got a few cents from squidoo, and that's now grown to a significant amount.for me each month, so I'm going to keep on keeping on.

Does anyone really make significant money through this business anymore? In the beginning writers did, but the market has become so saturated now with these types of websites. Internet surfers now have a lot to choose from.

My first payment from Vigilink this month, too. 27 big fat cents.
I've had the same question, Brenda, for a while. I don't have a huge social media network, which I assumed was my main problem in my measly income. Now that we're in the months before Christmas, I've been making daily sales from Amazon, though not for large amounts as I haven't been promoting big ticket items.
I really wonder when I hear people say they've been making three or even four digit monthly incomes. I haven't heard those reports as much as I used to when I read people's wizzles/lenses, so maybe things have changed. I feel I put in more time writing online than I can reasonably justify, as I need to return to my other writing pursuits. I have a second children's book coming out, by the way, which I need to promote.
I'll be starting a thread soon about getting a free review copy.
But to add my question to Brenda's, does anyone make more than say 50 bucks from writing online?

Yes they do, I know many and I myself was making a lot until I had to move all my stuff... I'm working on sqidoo lenses and wizzles... it just takes time, and interesting stuff- you ask me the chump change I am earning is more than I expected this early in the site, the sites evolution... it's a good sign that things will progress nicely- I'm now getting 10 sales a month on az, about 12.00 consistently, not a lot but consistent...
A lot of people don't really work at it and expect it to just happen, writing is fine but if you want faster results you have to promote your work- you don't have to to make money eventually- it ramps up naturally, but you have to be patient and stay motivated (and stay hungry)...
I like to set a wizzle, lens, hub up and let it sail for several months, if something takes off I'll promote the hell out of it... maybe even make new articles surrounding the rest of the niche... Don't let your ambition be linked to your earnings- trust me, the earnings will come but if you lose motivation- your toast.

Arlene, I'm also retired and don't have to do this. I think I'm going to try niche writing. I've got some ideas.
Jerrico, I agree with you. I think promoting your writing is the key at this point. There's a lot of competition out there.

Yes there is Brenda but also realize the very vehicle we're depending on is right off the showroom floor, it's pretty, it's unique, and it's cool- but it's barely visible on the web yet- that comes with more articles which comes from more authors, and even more promotion synergy.
As you promote your own articles you not only draw attention to them and their ranking improves, but you also help the site as a whole- As the site's ranking improves so does your potential to get more traffic overall (everyone's actions affect the whole as well as individually- we are a site and a community- and theirs power in numbers... )
At this point in wizzley's life it needs that synergy more than ever. When WZ reaches HP or SQ's status overall (article count, etc...) we all start to benefit more and less actual individual promotion efforts are really needed. This phenomenon was proven to me on HP when I started in their first or second year after 4 years the site and my account were primed so adding new articles I made money faster, got clicks faster, and my articles rose in the ranks even when I didn't do anything to promote them. That first year nothing happened- literally nothing- I'm doing better HERE in the same time index.
At this point promotion is charity to the site's growth and our own articles exposure... gotta love a good system like this. I say promote people- let's raise the sites stature and make it easier for everyone :)

Yes, they do. I am still earning four figures writing online and I know others that are as well. It still can be done.

I had an email telling me that I had earned $0.10 BUT it told me I had to "claim" the money by logging into PayPal. I deleted the email as I assumed it was a phishing email and cannot for the life of me understand why they would think I should "claim" the monies I have earned LOL
Edited to add: In response to the question as to whether people still earn money online - yes

I need someone to clarify what type of promotion is acceptable i.e currently with Google search. I know that (unfortunately) there is no crystal ball to predict what they will add to the list of things they do not approve of in future.
The problem I see all the time on article sites like Wizzley, Squidoo, HP etc is the reliance writers have in getting *Free* traffic. *Everybody* wants to know the secret to getting this google-generated freebie. Well, you know what you/they should be looking for is guaranteed, switch on and switch off, scaleable traffic - and that only comes from buying it - i.e. paid traffic.
Unfortunately, paid traffic is probably not cost effective for single articles.
There is also the learning curve involved with ad creation and promotion.
But, if you can generate an ad that produces *Targeted* traffic that is primed to pay for whatever you are promoting, then you can make good income.
There are many sites that sell traffic, and at reasonable prices ($0.01 upwards per click). It's all a matter then of testing the waters, finding what works, and scaling the project up.
Jerrico is right about concerning *free traffic*, but if you rely on making a living from the internet then you must take things into your own hands and advertise your business. Tell me, what successful offline business does not advertise itself?

You likely didn't enter your registered PayPal email in your VigLink payment settings. If they don't have anything specified, they will send payment to your VL email. Since PP doesn't see it associated with any existing account they send you an email so you can "claim it".
If you do nothing, the money will be returned to your VL account.

So far, given that I have very few articles here, I 'm really pleased with Viglink. I've had clicks totaling $2.10 and another two clicks this weekend. I see potential there!

Hey all great topic, what actions should we as wizzley authors take to ensure maximizing not only our personal Viglink growth, our entire community as well. That raising tide raises all ships thing you know.
In the interest of promoting one of our own, you can thank me later,. I just reviewed humagaia’s article http://wizzley.com/adsense-alternative-viglink-essential-tasks-to-maximize-benefits/ and did my best to follow the steps outlined.
I never did find the features button ; it must be a blind thing. Any hoo, this ole dog is learning new tricks every day, thanks to the wizzley community. Thanks to you all, any suggestions as to how I may do a better job I welcome your scrutiny.
Make it a great day all. Mike

I feel pretty good that I made almost $5 from Viglink this month! Don't ask me how, but I'll take it.
Payments like that, and what I get consistently from Squidoo are icing on my Zazzle income cake.
I don't make my money from writing- although it does help, but I do make enough now - from Zazzle- to live on. However those paychecks are not consistent in amount- and this is the time of year that is very slow for me. I can't seem to change that, and my December paycheck is always puny in comparison.
I also have to make big IRS payments throughout the year and buy my own VERY EXPENSIVE health insurance, and I will never be able to retire, so I envy those of you who have and will retire.

Arlene, you're supposed to pay income tax on every cent you make, whether or not the vendor reports the income to the IRS. The $600 limit limits the paper work vendors have to file, not what you're supposed to pay. It's up to you though.
