Ok, not the world. But certainly SquidU.

Wizzley couldn't have come at a better time!

Oh my. Big changes over there. I just read Megan's posts.

Well, I do applaud their being CLEAR with expectations and channels of communication. Of course it's a huge mid-stream shift that is hard to adjust to. But I have realized that I need to spend far more time writing and publishing than in the forum.

In the last 7 days I've published six lenses & five wizzes. THAT's what it's about!

Sounds like a good example to follow, Jimmie! I'm finding that the more I get swept up in the drama, the less I get on with my own work. I won't abandon Squidoo after all the investment I've put into it, but love the way that coming here feels like starting again with a clean slate.

I coildn't agree more.

This is change which is well communicated and well supported - and I like it.  It makes for a robust and supportive community.  I'm sure Wizzley is going to be very successful

Also I like being able to make new sites with a brand new way of doing things which is so simple and easy to use.

The only reason I'm not producing more at the moment is I'm up to my eyes in getting ready to go to painting in France for a month - but when I get back.........

Christene or Jimmie - would you mind posting a link to the SquidU post/Megan announcement you're referring to? I'm so busy over here and a bit out of touch with the latest on Squidoo. Thanks.  :)

Thanks for the links, guys. I just read through the whole thing.

It's an interesting experiment that will allow HQ to sit back and relax a bit.

I just hope it won't develop into a huge battlefield of exasperated leaders and frustrated members. And moderators may find out that they've just signed up for a part-time job, at least.

I wish HQ all the good luck in the world, of course. And I'm sure we'll learn a lot from this experiment.

I read and commented on both Megan's threads.  It is indeed interesting, and I sure hope that whoever is moderating has good people skills, negotiating skills etc. as it is not easy to do what is being asked, especially if they are volunteers.

One of my conccerns is I think if someone has been caught cheating or plagurizing that doesn't give me a great feeling of them being in charge.  I have always said, if you want to know someone's true character give them a little power :)

It's certainly not a job I would relish. Prefer sitting on the sidelines for now. Squidu is not what it used to be Frown but I applaud the stalwarts who are keeping things 'normal' at the moment.

Well, having had emails from people asking me to stand for the SquidU Council I have been considering this all day.

There's several things that are making me cautious:

People who continue to get away with TOS Violations could be elected (and I am NOT talking about major players in my little "difficulty" that I had recently) and I would find it so hard to work with them

The time it will require to not just moderate SquidU but to set up new Guidelines, because it looks as though the new SquidU Council will start with a pretty clean slate

Volunteering is good, but at some stage I HAVE to get more serious about making more money. I am doing OK, but I know I could do better and that takes time and focus.

I also think it is interesting that people who I respect so much, are not sure about it either.

I do think it is a good move by HQ in some ways, but distancing themselves from the Forum completely is being seen in a negative way by some and if they dont get the right mix of team players in the Council then it could just turn into a bigger mess than it is already.

As Kathy says, give some people a little power....

Well it is late here in the Uk, the deadline for applying will be 5 am UK time tomorrow. I am off to bed with a good book - well actually it is not a quality book at all, having been written by Jilly Cooper but it makes for light reading that makes me giggle Laughing

After a lot of thought, I am not applying but if some of the people I know who have applied are elected then there will be some good people there.

AJ....enjoy the book.....we will see later who applied.  I know Waxing Lyrical, Squid Rich, or just Rich (all his Squidoo personas) applied and he is extremely ethical, doesn't show favoritism, and has been helping new Squids since before he became a Giant.  He  is one that will definitly get my vote!!!!!

I woulda voted for you too :)

I agree. You can spend a lot of time at the forum and get nothing really done. On the contrary, you are upset by the controversies there.

(Can't quite quote two folks in one reply. Will try again another time.)

I agree totally! I'm investing time here and publishing more and more content for my "online empire."

I think you would do well, but I agree, it sounds like a BIG job.  It really may be too much for a group of volunteers.  I try to stay out of controversies, so I know I couldn't do it. lol!!!

It would be a grandiosely huge job, with very little in return for the work.  And at any point, Squidoo could decide to stop paying for the forum site, which I think they will do.  Someone would need very large chunks of time to do that job.

And time is at a premium for those of us who need to be earning online because they have no other option.

The candidates have been announced: http://www.squidu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=581805#p581805

Been there, done that. It is a HUGE time consuming task, as Paula said. I felt great satisfaction in a job well done but it left little time for anything else. My priority now is to create a nice income for my family, same as AJ.

We have to take care of our own first. If we don't, no one else will. :D  That is a lesson I learned the very hard way.

Good luck to the candidates! I voted and wish them well!
