A Second Account?

I have been thinking about separating my more "serious" or professional pages off into another account under my real name - are we allowed to do that?  If we are is there a way to move some pages to that account from an existing account?

We are no doubt allowed but in my opinion why? You would be splitting your revenue slashing your earning potential.  Writers are considered to be well rounded people as they research for a living.

Showing your diverse skills and interest I feel will only add to your pkmcr, hmm that's not your real name 

Because I am not a writer

I am a marketer and also create content in very specific niches and brand myself appropriately.  For a whole range of reasons I am looking increasingly to brand my real name on a professional/business level and a mixture of cupcakes/social media strategy/kids swings and personal development doesn't speak to the brand I am looking to create.

pkmcr is a brand which is about high quality product/solution information

I think that my travel and photography materials are okay, but not the more gifty type stuff. For that reason, I have been considering setting up a new account in a new name that would keep me anonymous for the nonprofessional materials.

I fully identify with your wanting to move in the opposite direction. However, with your "anonymous" identity, you have your own photo - you may want to take that down and have an avatar and when people get used to the avatar, then open a new account with your photo (a different one than we have become used to).  Does that make sense?

Just my 2 cents.

Of course, you can set up as many accounts as you like, Paul.

As to moving your content from one account to the other, I recommend sending a list to Simon via PM.

I was thinking I might use a less casual image for my other account rather than stop using the current pkmcr image because that is one I use across pkmcr accounts - but I do agree with you about identification

This is something I think about too. Most of my writing is about Mom/home stuff because I wanted to escape from my day job!

But I'm highly qualified with a successful corporate career (currently on sabbatical) and I do occasionally touch on these topics and may do so more in future once I've fully recovered from a hectic few years with a full-time job, two small kids and building up an online business at the same time. 

One of the reasons I don't use my real name is the clash between those two identities. So I understand where you're coming from Paul. 

 I've done this ample times at other sites.  The only trick or challenge is keeping up with the different user names.  You might want to consider not adding comments to your more professional pages eliminating the many comments you may or may not want to spend time responding to.  I found myself facing two to three hours daily just responding to comments, followers and the like generated from different user names and profiles.  

Plus it has been my experience the readers are more likely to respond to AdSense when no comments section is offered, it merely appears as a professional web page.  With a good page prompting the need or desire to expand more on the exploration of said topic they look to the adsense adds giving you a better return.  Just food for thought.

pkmcr - This comment in general is not geared with only you in mind as it seems you may be looking to add only one additional user.  Although I do feel you're on to something with the using your name idea, it builds integrity in branding. 

I agree with Sherri, branding in name and image is important a picture is worth a thousand words and most people never forget a face, they may quickly forget your name but a face, not so much.

edited to add - I am preparing for an offline situation where I may need to have a very clear set of skills associated with my name online - hope that doesn't appear as if I am being obtuse but for me there is definitely a difference between what I do for "fun" and what I do professionally

BTW, guys - in a fairly tight conversation, like this one, you don't have to use "quote" every single time you post an answer. Just add @Paul or @Katie to your post, and people will make the connection.

When quoting, you can also delete some of the previous post(s), and simply leave only the part you're referring to.

We don't want to create too much duplicate content, y'know, and after a while it becomes hard to recognize the new answers.
