Imitation is pathetic and kills creativity and respect. Wizzley needs a WOW factor - not a Pinboard

UH OH. I can't publish the article I worked so hard on today Cry

Well, I could, but it would only have one module. I can't see any modules.WAHHHHHHHHH

What do you mean, Lana?

Did you create modules and they disappeared?

No. I can't find them. I mean, there's no modules to pick from. the edit page just shows me the intro and the first text box. That's it. Nothing else. I cleaned the cache twice and restarted the browser. Should I be using IE? Undecided

Top right - a box with our list of modules. Can't you see those?

Congratulations, Chef!

Well,  there was nothing there, but the page looked like it was running off to the right but there was no scroll bar at the bottom. I hit zoom out in my menu bar and it popped up. Guess I can publish after all. Thanks for telling me where to look.

Happy dance, happy dance....

Gotta walk dogs first though.

When you pin an image from the home page or one of the directory pages it does not link to the source page. I think this may be a problem (?) and kind of defeats the purpose of the Pinboard, at least from the author's point of view. Here endth the lesson. Cheers!

Linking to a directory page defeats the purpose of pinning, at least from the author's point of view.

You want to pin from (and link back to) your articles.

But a 'reader' can pin from an image on a directory page because they are now so prominent - Is that not a problem from a copyright or linking perspective? The link is not attribute to the original source page - but to the directory page - If from the home page it is simply the home url.

Oh cool!  I was wondering what the three articles at the very top of the home page fed from.  It's the latest articles.

Me gusta. :D

This update (wizzley 2.0?) is amazing, just amazing. Simon/Hans I wrote up a full review if you want to take a look...

The overall consensus this move is going to make wizzley the best d-(eye)-ner on the block, you've outdone yourselves.

Now trying to send this post flagged your spam sniper, and nothing here or in my last post was spam- just a review that was more than 1k characters?

I keep getting these spam protection - "please re-send form in about three seconds" errors, I got one when I tried to reply to Simon and it was persistent I even played the game and tried to re-send exactly 3 seconds later, it was a bit like trying to surround the cat in that game Keem made 200k writers non productive with :) (because they stopped writing to play it for 3 hours haha)...

Your spam protection is barney fifing me here... Once that message appears it persists non stop- there's no way out- even if you resend every 3 seconds (trying to send with this post here)... I was able to escape by closing it and replying to the post again (thus you see this)

Great job guys, this new site is amazing an aesthetic and functional marvel.

Just one Teeny Tiny thing. I can't see the bottom of the module box unless I zoom out to my teeniest point. NOT that that is a real problem for me because I don't really use those last two check boxes, but I thought someone might want to know. Kiss

Almost ready to hit "publish." This was a slow one with lots of explanatory pictures. I find it difficult to take pictures of what my two hands are doing AND hit the shutter on the camera....

We'll polish up the pie chart in time. There's quite a lot of options we can twist at. It should show numbers though ... maybe wait till tomorrow Brandon. We keep an eye on this matter.

It's tomorrow where I live :) No numbers yet. But, I can say I've got a boost in Google traffic!! I used to get 2 - 3 a day. But, my latest Owl mouse pad article got views from zazzle and wizzley alone (15 new views I kept a check on it) And my google views in total stats are 50% so its at least 25 views from google.com yesterday - Yay!

Ryan - can you point out that "rack" to me? The iphone article, I mean. (Unless this was only a theoretical example.)

We try our best to check on relevance and quality. IIndeed, in light of the recent Google updates, we'll have to be even stricter from now on forward. However, it's mainly the authors' responsibility to provide relevant images and to pin smartly. If people use images that mislead others, they will quickly lose their authority. Would be a stupid thing to do.

I think not indexing our wizzographies is a mistake. Although currently rebuilding, on HP I had over 140,000 backlinks to my profile page, which brought in a ton of traffic to my other articles, the wizzographies are not so much for ranking but so people can get to know us as authors which breeds signups and fans and may even get them to check out our work- people stumble on these and it builds intrest in our work, personally I want my wizzography to be indexed I have mine monetized and always thought, especially becuase it's getting a lot of attention, that it would help bring people to read my articles if hit on from google etc...

I would like to see my page re-indexed (can you index by request and leave the rest not indexed?)

Imitation is pathetic and kills creativity and respect. Wizzley needs a WOW factor - not a Pinboard

I think Wizzley one upped pintrest myself- and the mastermind behind apple computers once said "Good artists copy, great artists steal"... and if you think imitation is pathetic you should really look into how all technology is formed. We learned to build flying machines by imitating the way a birds wings are shaped and move... more recently we learned to create a suit that allows a person to fly from base jumping by imitating a "flying squirrel", Computers imitate the human brain to some degree- short term memory, long term storage/memory, etc..., cars are even designed aerodynamically based on cheeta's, and other fast animals. I find saying imitation ridiculous a bit ambiguous when everything around you was invented from imitating nature.

That said, copying a popular format in online businesses or off is just smart business, Wizzley isn't copying/plagerizing the format at pintrest, it took the idea and inspired a web 2.0  writing property version and integrated it into a site that will likely benefit drastically from "riding the wave" of modern trends...

Evolution is about imitation and updating in the next incarnation of what your imitating- there is a very real reason pintrest works and is a traffic driver that's an overnight explosion- because people are visual and the web and iPhone markets are proof of that- why do you think the iPhone inspired imatations? Because it's what works- plain and simple. Is a Nexus phone and an iPhone identicle or rediculous copies? Nope- they both have their individual evolutionary additions that evolve the personal phone/computer/time manager technology.

Looking at pintrest and wizzley it's a no brainer that they are two distinctively different infrastructures, that share great architectural designs (on the surface), look around you, all malls are designed pretty much the same, but it's the details not the major concept that makes it cool, useful, and powerful. Pintrest saw that people are mostly visual thinkers and enjoy quick efficient ways to find what they need- readers, researchers, writers, intellectuals- all find themselves in a position of needing serious time management just to do everything in one day- using a pintrest like interface means people can search faster, see more clearly what an article is about and enjoy the aesthetics of images- it's a stumbleupon feel and it's evolved out of not pintrest but all the sites like this- pintrest themselves copied the format from various concepts already out there.

Why should they monopolize the idea? They were first, they got the initial credit, but other companies may improve upon it and really blow it's coolness and use out out of the water... Sony invented the walkman and CD, but other companies found better ways to improve upon the technologies... did you know the bumps and dips concept (like the image format on pintrest is imitated on wizzley) is the basis for hard drive platters (where data is stored)? Are the the same bump/dip idea/binary etc... sure, but very evolutions of the technology. Imitation is a way of life for the successful- it's again, about evolution.

You ask me, if Wizzley or any 2.0 property DIDN'T imitate the highly attractive format of pintrest that would be a loss, a waste. It's applying a technology or idea across different cross sections of technology and it more of these sites would use this, the web would be a more stunning place to visit- let's face it, people like aesthetics, it's why our articles will rock the vote in time surpassing the rest... the look and feel invites people in like making dinner for a dinner party- come in , read, enjoy our aesthetics...

Mark Zuccerberg himself said when promoting facebook, it's nothing new, all the technology is out there and easy to get, I just used it in a way that people enjoyed... was his imitation of computer program/social networking formats ridiculous? Pioneers pay attention to trends and imitate it- it's the same weather your building a site better or learning how to invent flight.

Wizzley look "like" pintrest in some aspects but overall the WOW factor is absolutely there. The right brothers invented the first plane, but someone else figured out how to one up that design to create jets, helicopters, huge aircraft, and so on. What wizzley has done here is no different. Could the 'real' issue be that you don't like the change in aesthetics/design? Surprised
