Assassin's Creed gets a lot of love in the gaming industry but there are plenty of games like Assassin's Creed that offered a mixture of stealth and adventure before it. If you fell in love with the AC series and are wondering what else is out there in the genre I hope you'll find my page helpful.

I've enjoyed the series since day one and continue to return to the various games in the large AC franchise from time to time, there are plenty of other great stealth games that I also enjoy though, many of which go unnoticed by other gamers, so I'm making this page of games like Assassin's Creed to hopefully open their eyes!

One Of The Original Games Like Assassin's Creed

With the rising popularity of Assassin's Creed the Tenchu series is a near unknown to most but it's really one of the originals in the action/adventure and stealth genre. Starting back in 1998 for the original PlayStation the series has come along way, a journey which I have followed and really enjoyed.

The games are set in a feudal Japan era and let you take control of a number of ninjas during the series through a third person perspective. You'll get missions to follow while you slowly unlock new items and mechanics that provide plenty of assassin depth.

If you love Assassin's Creed this has to be your first stop on your games like Assassin's Creed journey, it's given me hundreds of hours of enjoyment and it will for you as well. The games are available on a mixture of consoles from PlayStation to Xbox and Wii so regardless of your platform of choice you'll have an option.

Thief Series

A Game Like Assassin's Creed Getting New Life In 2014

Thief is definitely considered to be the grandfather of the genre and is the perfect game like Assassin's Creed for PC fans looking to get more stealth adventure games.

I was first introduced into the game in 1998 when it first launched and enjoyed the two games that came after it in 2000 and 2004. Now after a decade the game is being revitalised with a 2014 reboot (which I'm very much looking forward to later this month).

As a stealth game your objectives in the various games are to obviously avoid direct fights and using your sneaking power to dispatch enemies. Listening out for sounds is most important and serve as an important indicator to your surroundings. Interaction with the environment is also a staple of the series with the ability to turn on and off things like lights, water flows and other various switches to help you gain the upper hand.

Dishonored

One Of The Steampunk Style Games Like Assassin's Creed

Dishonored is a fun mixture of Assassin's Creed and BioShock that I absolutely loved. It's available on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but I found the best experience for me was on PC since I've never been fast enough on consoles or have the dexterity on them that the game provides.

Dishonored is one of my favourite modern games with its mix of stealth, action and general steampunk vibe that reminds me very much of what BioShock offered. The game is played through a first person perspective and does blend in a number of role playing elements as well.

What really attracted me to Dishonored is the freedom that the game offers to you, from the upgrade paths you take to the multiple paths in each level I loved the feeling of choice that I had.

Hitman Series

Another Long Running Series Of Games Like Assassin's Creed

I've got a love/hate relationship with the Hitman series, some of the games are great and others are... well not so great. It's not that the gameplay wasn't good just they made some overall mechanic decisions that didn't suit me.

The series follows the story of Agent 47 so if you want to follow his story you'll want to start from the early games in the series, while this is part of the experience I was more interested in the assassinations then following this adventure, something you'll have to decide on.

What I like about Hitman is that unlike games like Thief your goal is to focus on blending in (something that makes it very similar to Assassin's Creed). There is also great focus on the environment and using it to take out your targets that make it look like an accident.

The series really lives up to its name by offering a very realistic Hitman experience.
