Gifts for Baby Boomers

by Ragtimelil

Know someone who's getting older, but not yet geriatric? Here's some great gifts for those of us in the Baby Boomer category.

I’m one of the older Baby Boomers and many of my friends fit that description, or soon will. We’re not ready for walkers, but there are some items that all of us might enjoy. Certainly you might know someone who would love a useful gift for Christmas or any occasion. If you're looking for a birthday or a welcome gift, you might want to look at these. Here are some thoughtful gifts that don’t necessarily shout about age.

(New Item added 11/18/12)

Senior Moment Mug

We all have our senior moments, when we can't remember why we walked into a room. This colorful mug is a great gift that pokes fun at our forgetfulness. This mug makes a great gift for co-workers and friends, in fact, for anyone. You can comfort them with a handy mug that can hold their coffee, tea, or prune juice.
The blue polka dot on tangerine yellow mug will hold 11 ounces and reads, "Caution, Senior Moment in Progress."

Everyone has come up against a jar that simply won't open. For those with arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome, it happens all too often. Here's a great device that opens any jar. It's handy to use. No searching through drawers to find it. It attaches to the underside of a kitchen cabinet and is always within reach.

This five-star-rated jar opener is a great item to have in a camper too. It comes with adhesive and optional mounting screws to secure it. Since you don't have to hold the jar opener, you can use both hands to hold the jar.

Jitterbug Cell Phone

Not everyone wants a tiny, hard to see cell phone with complicated apps. Some people just want a phone they can see and hear.
The Jitterbug is that phone with a backlit keypad, big buttons and large text for easy to read use. It also comes with exceptional sound quality. The adjustable volume goes up to 101 dB and the ringer goes up to 110 dB. The Jitterbug has the lowest possible interference for those with T coil hearing aids and comes with a voice activated Voice Dial feature. This feature dials any number stored in the phone by voice. It also has a hands-free speaker phone function and call waiting.

The Jitterbug is also Bluetooth and caller ID enabled and comes with a rechargeable battery and an AC powered battery charger. When you are ready to activate your phone, a live person will guide you through the process.
It's easy to forget what day of the week it is when you stay at home. The clock shows the time, the date and the day of the week in large numbers and letters and is easy to read from across a room.
An atomic clock receives radio waves from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and guarantees that the clock will be accurate to nanoseconds. There's no need to adjust clock for daylight savings time or leap years.
It runs on one AA battery and can be mounted on the wall, or set on a table or shelf. The clock is 8.75 inches wide, 9.5 inches tall and .75 inches deep. The time display is 2 inches tall and the seconds and date are 1 inch tall.

A Time Gone By

Most Baby Boomers can remember going to drive in movies on a date or with family. During the intermission, everyone would rush to the concession stand for snacks and drinks. There are no more drive in theaters, but you can still enjoy the memory with this giclee print. It comes in three sizes and can be customized for a special gift.

The giclee process is the standard for museums and galleries and is a process where millions of drops of ink are sprayed on the acid-free paper.for maximum color quality and resolution.

Music

We can't forget the music of the era. I remember dancing with my girlfriend as we tried to learn the dances we saw on American Bandstand.

Here's a collection to bring back memories You have to love the hair styles back then too.

1. Let's Have A Party - Wanda Jackson
2. That'll Be The Day - The Crickets
3. Wake Up Little Susie - The Everly Brothers

I remember those days!

That poster made me smile. We lived in much simpler times. But, then, that's what our grandparents said when we were growing up. Things change too fast these days. I can't keep up.

They are great. I like the day of the week feature. I can never remember what day of the week it is, mostly because I don't really need to now that I'm home all the time. Still one does need to remember these things....

Thanks. We get reminded enough. We don't need to be told too.

These are great! It seems that wherever we turn we're being told we're getting old. lol
