You can walk down the aisle of any drugstore and see dozens of different kinds of creams and lotions all offering to solve your dry skin problems. The market for dry skin is huge. You could say it's an epidemic. But why do so many people have this problem?
There are many causes of dry skin, but dry air and harsh weather are the most common causes. As humidity levels falls, the skin's layer's are not able to hold on to moisture. The result is dry flaky skin. Also, if the air inside your home is dry, this has an effect on your skin as well. Adding a humidifier to your home may help out some.
After air and weather, the most popular causes of dry skin are long hot showers and the chemicals in soap. Although your muscles may appreciate long hot showers, hot water strips essential lipids from your skin. Try cooler water and shorter shower duration to preserve some of your skin's moisture. Also, commercial soaps are known to dry out skin. They are often detergent based and have have no humectants in them.

I have never personally tried goats milk soap but it sounds really good for dry skin. I should definitely pick some up, especially with winter coming.
@Raintree Hope it works for you!
I have really sensitive skin and am struggling to find non prescription soaps I can use. I am going to look into goats milk soap further. Thank you!
@marciag You're lucky. I think goat milk makes the best soap.
I am living in Cyprus, and goat milk soaps are quite popular here.
Yeah, makes you want to try your hand at soap making. Thanks for commenting
I love this idea! Not only will goat's milk soap benefit your skin, but it will add a little extra income for struggling small family farms.
