My Favorite Kindle Tips and Tricks

Kindle Tips that work for me!

A few weeks after using my Kindle, my front page was a mess of all different kinds of books, some read, some unread and some I did not intend to read.   Then I discovered Collections (Categories)!  Yippee!  Press the right arrow when you are on any title to create collections/ categories and organize your Kindle.  You will enjoy having all of your "read" books in a file folder all their own.  I also have a folder for books about internet marketing, books I am ready to lend, and favorite books.

Since the beginning of my internet marketing career I have read a wide variety of "how to" ebooks.  In the old days, before Kindle, I downloaded these to my computer, printed them, and put in 3 ring binders.  Now I simply email the pdf's to my kindle email address (see your Kindle profile for this email address).  In the subject line add only the one word "convert".   In a short time, these books are in Kindle format and ready to download to my Kindle.

Note:  you must use wireless to download the converted pdf's.  Your Whispernet will not work for this.

PSS - Do not be polite and say "please convert".   That will cause your pdf's to show up on your kindle in pdf format -- not easy to read at all.  Omit the word "please".   This is one time you definitely do not want to be polite!

Enjoy!

Favorite Books on my Kindle

Free, 99 cents and normal pricing

I enjoy borrowed books (See link to Booklending below), free books and 99 cent books most of the time.  Occasionally I splurge and pay $8-10 for a book.  But that's a real treat.

If you take the time to read free and 99 cent authors, you will quickly find a favorite author or two.  I have always enjoyed finding a new author and reading everything he/she has written.  I am following that same system with my free and inexpensive Kindle books.

Some of my favorite Kindle books are featured here.  I enjoy southern novels and mysteries.  I hope you find a few you would enjoy.

You can borrow books to read on your Kindle.

Booklending.Com
If you own a Kindle, you definitely want to become familiar with booklending.com. The more books you list and loan, the more books will be available for your to borrow. Borrow a book for 2 weeks. At the end of the two weeks, the book will be removed from your Kindle. Most of us read a book in less than 2 weeks. I have borrowed many books for my Kindle, and never have been faced with a time issue.

Kindle Accessories

Do you need accessories for your Kindle?

I use only two accessories for my kindle.  My first purchase was a pink Kindle cover.  The pink color makes it easy for me to find my Kindle in a dark purse or a giant carry bag.  The cover also has a pocket for tucking important notes - a great place for recommended books, passwords for wireless spots I use often, and the ever important character lists for reading books that span generations.

My second little accessory is a clip on book light.  I have used this little booklight much more than I expected.   It is so convenient to have instant light for reading in bed, reading on vacation when the lighting is not good, or even reading in the car at night.

I would advise everyone to get a great cover and a clip on light.   I  would not advise anyone to buy a load of accessories they will not need.  Keep it simple, enjoy your Kindle and add items as you see the need.

I love my Kindle. A week or so ago it stopped working. I contacted Amazon and they asked a few questions. Then within a day a replacement was arrived and I sent the old one back. Amazon's Guarantee is really iron-clad. I did need to back-up my own stuff, PDF's and Audio but as soon as I logged in every book I have bought - about 250 - was sent again.

Thank you very much.

I'm also an avid ereader - but I have a nook. I find that I'm reading a lot more than I used to because my eyes don't have to work as hard with the larger font size. I've been able to download books free from the library, which has been a real budget saver. It's my understanding that the new Kindles will also be able to borrow library e-books as well.

Joan, now I want one! I've seen Kindles and thought they were always out of reach, but the prices seem much lower now. OK, now I have something on my Want List.
