Introducing Joan Adams

by petunia

My grandchildren love to be introduced like sports stars! It's my turn today! You must imagine that you are at a sports event, and the announcer says, "In--tro-ducing Joan Adams!

The Facts of Life

or as my friends say - The Gospel According to Joan

I am me!  A woman with experience........with children, grandchildren, family joys and tragedies.

I no longer recognize the lady in my mirror.
I must not be 35 anymore - that just can't be;
If it were, my kids would be older than me.
I was such a skinny kid -
Where'd she go?
I think she's somewhere inside this overweight body of mine.

And yes, my life has had it's ups and downs.
Life is just like that, I've finally learned.
We have happy days and we have sad days.
Mostly we have normal days - and those are a special treasure.

Our wedding day was a happy day for sure,
And then the joy of both our children.

And the special joy of our precious grandchildren.
It was a sad day when my husband told me he was losing his vision,
and another sad day when my young brother died that same year at the age of 36.

And yet, life goes on.  Happy days and sad days and normal days in a row.
And we either survive or we don't.
We either decide to be happy with our life and treasure the good,
Or we spend our lives complaining about the bad.

Have I learned anything on this journey called life?
I hope so.
I have learned to be less judgemental and more accepting - most of the time.
I have learned that there are always happier days ahead - no matter how sad we may be in a moment.
I have learned that human beings have an amazing power to adjust to life's challenges.
I have learned that it's up to me to be happy.
I have learned if I wait 3 days, most of my mad disappears.
I have learned that everybody is just doing the best they can.
I have learned to be thankful - for at least 5 things a day.
I have learned to always have a carrot and a goal.
(If you don't know -- A carrot is something to look forward to in the future!)
I have learned that just being me is all I can do.
As Popeye says, "I yam what I yam"

Squidoo and Hubpages

My Productive Life Online

When I am not knitting with a loom, or playing with the grandchildren, or feeding a hungry husband, or reading on my super Kindle, you will find me at Squidoo.  My Squidoo name is Joan4.

I also have another identity at Squidoo - WeddingDetails.

At hubpages and twitter, I am known as moonvine

Yes, I have an identity crisis.  So what did I do about that?  I came here to Wizzley and thought I could keep my identity a secret if I called me Petunia!   Only problem was, I kept seeing friends here, and I wanted to visit and have fun with you all - and I did not want to hide behind my new name anymore.   I am thankful for all of my friends on line.

My grandmother used to say "you can call me anything as long as it's not a bad word."   I agree with her wisdom. You can call me moonvine, or Joan4, or Joan or Petunia or even Joan-Joan - that's what my grandchildren call me!   Just call me!

Ha! It didn't know that was you Joan. Surprise!

In my family the expression was: Call me anything, but don't call me late for dinner! Then again, there were ten of us around the dinner table and being late would have been a minor catastrophe!
Good to see you here, Joan! I didn't recognize your name until now.

Weird to suddenly know you as 'Petunia', though I guess it's a good thing: there are always too many Joan's about. I always get confused about that on Squidoo.

Glad to see you here as well :)

I find it interesting how you change your name for each site that you are on. Nice to read about your Facts of Life.

I did learn some things. I learned that we both are trodding along that same path and discovering the wonders of aging, finding wisdom to deal with life's ups and downs, and learning to just be as happy and content along the way. Cheers to you, my friend. :)

Oh Joan (Petunia), I loved your 'Facts Of Life ~ The Gospel According To Joan'.
Such wisdom can only come through experience and learning to accept what is.
You sure look like you are enjoying life! Fantastic!
