Bedtime can be a challenge when you have a toddler in the house. Even for the most well adjusted toddler, bedtime can be a scary event.
It's not because the room is scary necessarily, or that he or she hasn't had a good day. Something about bedtime means entering a space that is unknown. Maybe your child is worried he will be missing something. Maybe she thinks that if she goes to sleep without you there beside her, you will somehow disappear.
No, it doesn't make sense. But it doesn't have to. If your child is afraid of monsters under the bed or gremlins in the closet, then that fear is real to him or to her and no amount of arguing or rationalizing that you do will make the smallest iota of difference.
Your child needs to know that you will keep her safe. She also needs to know that she can do something to ease her own fears.
That is why I like these little Kinderglo Night Lights. The child can hold onto one because it is just the perfect size to fit in a little hand. When she flicks the button, she can turn it on and watch as it glows, turning from one soothing color to the next in a calming pattern. Because the night light is made from nontoxic plastic, she can take it into bed with her like any other toy.
And the LED light inside will not get hot, so you don't have to worry that it will burn her or pose any fire hazard. After thirty minutes, the light will turn off by itself. Unless you want it to stay on all night: in that case, you hold the button down for a few seconds and it wil stay on until you turn it off yourself.
Can You of Someone Who Would Like One of These Night Lights?
Thanks for your comment, Kinworm. Yes, a little reassurance goes a long way.
These Kinderglo Night Lights are a cute way to reassure young children at night-time. My daughter always has a little night light on. Most young children hate the dark.
