Losing weight fast is something many want to do but they do it all wrong with crash diets and unmanageable workouts. Try this instead.

Tips on Losing Weight Healthy and Quickly

Every year, millions of people make the New Year's resolution to lose weight (I've been there myself), but most don't follow through and hope for some crash-diet for losing weight fast to help them in a pinch.

Look, if the pants or dress are too tight now, don't make plans to wear them by next weekend: I can't help you lose weight that fast and be healthy.

You can't hop on your Sole E95 elliptical and expect to train like a fiend for 10 days and be at your goal weight.

What I can do is tell you what's worked very well for me and my wife, and it's no gimmick at all, just effective tips that most reading this will not put into practice because they feel it's too hard.

Those of you who want to follow through and begin losing weight healthy and fast should commit right now to do whatever it takes to achieve your fitness goal.

First Things First: Setting Goals

Achieving Goals by Mindset

One of the first things that people fail to do but need to strongly reconsider is setting an actual goal weight.

Quickly, it entails some basic, but powerful steps:

  • Set a reasonable goal to achieve.
  • Set a deadline to achieve the fitness goal.
  • Write it down where you can see it daily.
  • Record your progress along the way.

That's really important - properly setting the goal weight you want to hit and then giving yourself limited time to do so. Ask your doctor before embarking if your goals are reasonable (consider that my medical disclaimer).

Some will try to aim too high, and others will set a goal of 10 pounds in 3 months, which anyone can achieve. The goal should be a challenge but also something you can actually get done.
Then remove any excuses by forming new eating and exercise habits.

If you don't already own one, I'd recommend reading about the best elliptical for home use to find quality elliptical machines you can use at home, or a good treadmill to use (take your pick, I prefer ellipticals for cardio).

Losing Weight Fast by Habits

Making Time for Diet and Exercise

What you eat and how many calories you burn off will determine whether or not you lose weight fast. To have the best results, a simple suggestion that's worked incredibly well for my wife and me: forget calorie counting.

Really, it's a drag to weigh your food (we used to do a popular program that had us weigh food and count "points" - it worked but we never stuck to the diet for long).

Something happens mentally when you can't have what you want.

The body and mind respond in revulsion and you can't stop thinking about the good food you miss (or the bad food), resulting in a binge and eventually you lose steam entirely to keep going.

Result? You put all the weight back on you may have lost.

My suggestion is to read about the Paleo Diet that's causing quite a stir, and learn about the natural way to eat that has many people (myself included) losing weight and eating exactly what we want.

It's just one idea, but it works for us and it's something we don't regret doing. It's a lot like the Adkins Diet in some respects, but not quite.

Main points with it are you can't have gluten (found in wheat) and grains, dairy is mostly out and processed sugars and foods are a thing of the past.

Overall: we've never felt or looked better, not even in high school.

So what I'm suggesting is you discover the Paleo diet and see what the hubbub's about, it's easier than it sounds and really effective.

If that's not something you want to do, then simply cut out your junk food: burgers, fries, shakes, sugar-loaded foods and processed foods.

You'd be surprised how sticking to whole foods alone can drastically reduce your weight.
But that's only part of the issue - now you need to exercise.

Find a Workout Partner

Accountability Helps Lose Weight Fast

Without my wife, I don't think I could lose the weight I have. If you're married or not is irrelevant, what matters is having someone you trust who can act as your cheerleader, your motivation, your accountability partner and workout partner.

Maybe you need 3 or 4 people to play the role of cheerleader, workout partner(s) and accountability "guy" or "gal."

The trick is to not do this alone - it really works if you have a partner or friends to workout with, and eat healthy with.

Working out together may simply mean you run with a friend, or go to the local YMCA or other gym to workout if you don't own your own equipment.

Maybe you have a friend who has an elliptical or treadmill - can you use it? Can you keep one another accountable?

Committing to Losing Weight Long Term

It's More Than a Fad, It's a Lifestyle

Getting the weight off and keeping it off is more than just a 6-week stint you do between dress or pants sizes. It requires more commitment: you are either committed to a healthier you or you aren't.

So commit to working out on some cardio for 30 minutes a day for three times a week.

This could mean walking around your block with wrist weights, or doing a jog for a few miles a few times a week, or working on an elliptical for half an hour three times a week: whatever suits your schedule.

Commit to this: 3 times a week, you workout for half an hour, get your heartrate up and push yourself.

On week 3 you want to add in weight training 2 or 3 times a week.

Need workout ideas?

A great workout program to follow is a CrossFit workout, they offer classes all over the place in local gyms and specialized CrossFit bootcamp events.

This is a military-style training that uses lots of powerlifting - but it works like nobody's business.

Even if you don't do CrossFit, get the free ebook from Mark Sisson at www.MarksDailyApple.com for your email (yes it's that good, in fact it's transformed my body but that's another story for another day).

Note: I have no affiliation with Mark other than his book inspired my wife and I to take charge of our fitness and look 1,000 times better than we have in years: it really is a free book and it's a life-changer if you follow it.

This will orient you to some healthy eating and working out habits that frankly I can't improve on, and you don't need expensive gym equipment for excellent results.

No gimmick or hype - it's just a great introduction to a topic I don't have room to write on at present.

If you do two things: change your eating habits to a more healthy and natural diet program that you can live with and not starve on, and get regular, strenuous exercise - you will start losing weight fast, faster than you thought possible.
