Morgan's Wonderland-Special Needs Accessible Amusement Park

by LindaSmith1

Morgan's Wonderland is a different kind of amusement park. Find out why your special needs family member, or those in wheelchairs won't be left out when visiting this park.

There was a family with a daughter, Morgan, who had special needs, and it was disappointing and heart wrenching because their daughter could not ride on rides at amusement parks, and participate in many of the activities enjoyed by children while on vacation. Her parents decided to do something about the situation.

Morgan's Wonderland, named after Morgan, a young lady with special needs. Her family made a dream theme park, designed specifically for those with special needs.

Unique Vacation For Special Needs Children and Adults

Due to changes in laws, hotels are now required to become ADA compliant. Having a hotel room which accommodates those with physical challenges is wonderful; but what about the activities which every member of the family should be able to enjoy? Finding those activities can be a challenge, but may not be any longer due to a young lady and her family who decided every child should be able to enjoy a family vacation.

In 2010, a family dream named “Morgan's Wonderland” became a reality not only for them, but for other families with special needs children. Morgan's Wonderland is located in Northeast San Antonio Texas. Morgan's Wonderland is a Texas theme park with a unique concept its design for special needs children and adults.

Before your family leaves home, there are interactive activities found on their website. The children can choose a car and design it, or download a coloring book among other activities.

You can make various purchases, including tickets and passes online as well. Individuals with special needs and children under the age of 2, get Free Admission.

Morgan's Wonderland Attractions

Attractions

Morgan's Wonderland is certainly different than the typical amusement park. The attractions are centered around those with challenges while entertaining to the entire family.

  • Swings are often a favorite. Here everyone can enjoy swinging in the outdoors, while choosing among the traditional, wheelchair or adaptive swings.
  • Wonderland Express and Depot: The entire family will enjoy the 1830's style train ride and wheelchair accessible depot that takes them on a tour around the 8 acre lake.
  • Of course children love the cars. They can drive around theWonderland track.
  • Carousel: The merry-go-round is absolutely beautiful and wheelchair accessible.
  • Around The World is a way to enjoy the sounds, architecture and landscape of other countries without ever getting on a plane. Pirates always seem to amaze children. Your family can cross the plank and pretend they are sailing the seas in this pirate themed playground which is also wheelchair accessible.
  • Sand Circle: Often, children have to sit, idly by, while others plow through the sand, digging and using their imagination for their sand creations. The Sand Circle is open to all, including wheelchairs with adaptable sand diggers. Rather than have a child struggle with a traditional sandbox, the raised sand table makes life much easier while providing lots of fun.
  • Sensory Village: Although there may not be live horses available, a ride on a Equicizer horse will certainly provide a ride equal to the real thing. The Paramount Theater offers multiple interactive videos. Sensory Village is a great place to wake up the senses, as well as have a lot of fun.
  • Fishing is not only for those who can crawl over rocks or climb into a boat. Morgan's Wonderland provides an easily accessible fishing pier where all can enjoy trying out their angler skills.

Relaxation-Special Events-Accomodations

Relaxation

Taking a stroll along wide paths, fitting for wheelchairs, along with a peaceful garden for a bit of relaxation, and of course a great picnic area where the entire family can bring their lunch or purchase it at the park are great ways to stop and rest, or maybe end their day of busy activities.

Special Events

Special events including corporate events, dances, luncheons, fundraising events, are possible. There are multiple, fully-equipped pavilions available. Age appropriate birthday parties with special treats for the guest of honor are available along with several birthday packages to choose from.

Accomodations

If you are wondering where to stay, there are nearby hotels which partner with the park, and offer special discounts via promo codes to the Wonderland visitors.  Be sure to check the amenities that are available to those with special needs.

ADA Compliant Vacations For The Disabled

Those with special needs encounter so many issues when they go on vacation.  However, things are changing. Hotels are becoming ADA compliant.  There are beaches where one can obtain a special beach wheelchair so they can enjoy the beach, going into the water just like everyone else.  Some cruise lines are now considering those who have limitations and are making changes.  ADA compliant vacations are not out of reach.

Morgan's Wonderland has much to offer, from Birthday parties to corporate events, hotel information, everything you need to know about at Morgan's Wonderland.
