Preventing And Fighting Neck Pain with Cervical Neck Pillows And Devices

by Jerrico_Usher

Many people today are not sleeping well and part of the problem is improper ergonomic support for the body

With so much stress and other factors that tighten up the muscles in the body, it's no wonder there are so many people finding it hard to relax and release tension from the back and neck muscles. Sleeping is next to impossible if you can't relieve the tension from your neck, head, and spine. You don't have to have a stressful job to have this problem.

Many who have found working at home/online a more liberating way to work are also finding out that there are some things that can cause problems from carpel tunnel to stressed and tightened/tense neck and shoulder muscles. The key to sleeping well is to both have a good well supportive mattress but also a pillow that will support your neck and head so you can relax and sleep. In this article we'll cover the cervical neck pillows that do just that.

There is nothing worse then neck pain. Oh sure, back pain is bad, leg pain too, but there is something so terrible about neck pain that makes back pain look like a walk in the park.

The problem with neck pain is you really don't understand how much you use your neck until you have the pain that limits range of motion.

The subtle movements you make with your neck throughout the day become very apparent when your neck hurts- most of the time we take it for granted.

With neck pain, those little movements turn into knife-like daggers.

Just the simple act of looking from side to side becomes nearly impossible with even a little neck pain.

This can hinder your ability to fall asleep too!

Sleep And Neck Pain

___________________________________________________

If you are able to get any sleep with neck pain it's typically after several hours of trying to find a position where the pain is at least manageable.

Anyone with even a tinge of chronic neck pain should seriously look into purchasing some Cervical neck pillows.

When you have neck pain the way that you sleep truly does dictate how you will feel the rest of the next day.

If you sleep wrong on your neck then expect a day full of painful movement and limited mobility.

If you use a good pillow and your neck/back is actually aligned, your day looks a lot brighter.

With Cervical neck pillows, your neck actually stays supported and in place. This helps avoid cramping up like with regular pillows.

One of the things that will actually cause neck pain is sleeping on a flat or misshapen pillow.

There are a variety of different types of Cervical neck pillows on the market. These range from a "core" variety, which have a little indention for your head which cradles the neck while sleeping on your back, to a "butterfly" pillow which are designed like, well, a butterfly.

A great feature in many cervical pillows is the use of memory foam, which will actually remember the shape of your head and thus give it better support each night.

You can also purchase cervical pillows which incorporate an ice pack or can be electronically adjusted to a certain height or depth (using air or water for hydraulics).

Conclusion

________________________________________________

Cervical neck pillows help assist you in proper neck and head alignment. If your neck is in pain you may be causing tension in other parts of the body- primarily the back.

The back and neck/spine are all lined up and should remain in alignment for optimal health, pain free neck and shoulders, and to allow you to sleep much easier.

This also keeps the breathing passage open so you can breathe right and get enough oxygen. Sleep apnea is a serious condition that can form from improper back and neck alignment over years.

The ultimate goal is to avoid irritation to the neck's nerve endings/roots. This also helps you snore less!

Cervical neck pillows are known for being well crafted, value priced (some are more expensive than others), and wonderful for keeping the neck in proper alignment when your sitting still or sleeping.

There are versions for the car and chairs as well as pillows specifically designed to use while sleeping. Others have adjustable firmness and size through an air bag system you pump up with the small included pump.

Some leaders in the field are Alex Orthopedic, Duro-Med, Mediflow and Core Products just to name a few.

There are several varieties of products available including the Tri Core Cervical Pillow, Cervical Traction Neck Pillow, and the Cervical Support Pillow.

These pillows help to bring cervical pain relief including from a pinched nerve, a herniated disc and even shoulder pain.

I did Katie, I had you in mind actually :) I had to rewrite this whole thing, my first copy was informative but written like a third grader with a head injury jotted it down haha, glad you liked it. I have severe insomnia myself, I keep trying to steal Michelle's pillow because it's the perfect firmness and softness (mine is beat to hell and flat) and I pass right out seconds after my head hits that pillow (I've since gotten a bunch of new pillows hehe). The memory foam pillows are incredible for neck support while sleeping.

WOW 'm gonna think you wrote this just for me. Since my injuries due to a car collision I've had cervical surgery adding a few titanium nuts and bolts to my back, upper and neck. You have no idea how much money I've spent since then buying every pillow known to man trying to prevent neck discomfort as I (TRY) sleep. This is exciting to find as I've got a ray of new hope for a good nights sleep void of neck pain. Thanks J :)K
