Neptune Breaded Basket Style Shrimp

by StevenHelmer

I purchased this product this past weekend. Read to find out what I thought of it.

Product Description: Frozen breaded shrimp from the Neptune brand, prepared by either pan frying or deep frying. I purchased two boxes of this product at one of our local grocery stores this past weekend for roughly $3 per box. I ended up making the shrimp Sunday night as part of a family fish dinner.

Review

I wanted to try out my new fryer this past weekend and, because of that, decided to run to the store to pick up some fish. As is usually the case when I go seafood shopping, I was in the mood for some shrimp and decided to try the Neptune Breaded Basket Style Shrimp.

This is a product I've seen in the past but have never taken the time to purchase. This is because I normally end up making shrimp in the oven rather than frying it and this brand doesn't have instructions for doing that. Since, as I said, I was using my new fryer, this was a good opportunity to try the brand for the first time. And, for the most part, I did find I enjoyed this product.

I ended up purchasing two boxes of this shrimp because it was on sale and that proved to be the right decision because the quantity was lacking. However, other than that, I didn't have any serious complaints about this product.

I made the shrimp in the fryer as planned and it turned out as well as expected. The breading was crisp and, unlike plenty of other brands we've purchased in the past, there was actually quite a bit of shrimp inside the breading portion of it.

As far as taste goes, I was satisfied. However, I will mention the breading on this shrimp did seem to have a bit more of a pepper flavor to it than some other brands. This wasn't that big of a deal for us. But, since there are plenty of people out there that might not be fans of a pepper taste, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Final Opinion

I'm not sure if it will be a product I will purchase all the time, mainly because I do like the convenience of baking breaded shrimp like this if I choose to. However, I thought this purchase did turn out to be worth my money and I would consider buying it again.

I cannot get this brand in my area, and probably not here in Britain, so what is meant by breading the shrimps and how could I, a fish and seafood lover, replicate this recipe?
