Grampa Rechek's Sweet Italian Sausage Review

by StevenHelmer

A review of the Italian Sausage I recently purchased from the Grampa Rechek's brand for $2.99 per pound.

Product Description: Ground pork sausage with a mild blend of Italian herbs and other seasonings packaged under the Grampa Rechek’s label. I have purchased several packages of this product over the past couple of weeks and have used it in a variety of recipes. The price for this product, which is available at one of our local grocery stores, is currently $2.99 per pound.

A Product That Exceeded My Expectations

Grampa Rechek's Sweet Italian SausageI actually don’t buy Italian sausage all that often. This is mostly because my wife isn’t a big fan of it and my daughters rarely try new foods, especially those that are seasoned like this. And, since I don’t like buying food items that I’m going to be the only one eating, this, until very recently, was something I normally would leave on the shelf.

A couple weeks ago, however, I found a package of this on sale and, since my wife had to work, I figured I would fry it up for my breakfast the next morning. I remembered having this in the past. However, since it was so long ago, I couldn’t remember much about the product. What I discovered was a pork sausage that exceeded my expectations to the point I have purchased it several times since.

There are a couple things I really like about this particular brand of Italian sausage. The first, and most important one, is the blend of seasonings mixed in with it. As I mentioned, my wife isn’t a big fan of Italian sausage because most brands add too much in terms of seasoning. That is not the case with this particular brand. The Grampa Rechek’s sausage is much milder and, as a result of that, it is something my wife and even my oldest daughter seem to enjoy as much as I do.

Uncooked SausageThe milder taste also gives me a lot more flexibility when it comes to this product. As I said before, the first time I purchased this product, I ate it plain. However, since then, I’ve been able to find other ways of using the sausage. Last week, for example, I mixed it in with my spaghetti sauce. Last night, I experimented a bit, combined it with hamburger and added it to my chili. Each time I have done that, the sausage has made a subtle but enjoyable flavor change to the food I was preparing.

Another thing I like about this brand of sausage is the fact there isn’t as much grease as I expected it to have. I do have to drain it a bit. But, unlike some other brands of pork sausage, it’s not swimming in grease while I’m frying it up. I’m not a nutrition expert and can’t claim it’s healthier for me as a result of that. However, it does make it much more appetizing.

Final Opinion

Sausage Mixed with HamburgerHad this product not been on sale a couple weeks ago, I probably would not have tried it. However, after getting the opportunity to do so, I definitely think it is something I will be purchasing much more often going forward. If you have a chance to try this Italian sausage, I do recommend taking the time to purchase a package of it.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for product lines, pretty pictures and practical information.
The sausage contains anise, black pepper, fennel, nutmeg and paprika, according to the label in the image. That's a list of seasonings and spices that I like in meat, although preferably not ham and pork.

But what about the monosodium glutamate?
