Stress is called a "silent killer" because it is eating you up inside and, if you choose to ignore it, and allow it to accumulate, you could find yourself seriously ill or even dead after a while. It's that powerful and dangerous.
Many who have ignored the effect stress was having on their health and life, ended up paying the ultimate price, with their life.
