by KDB

Information, tips and recipes for adding onions to your healthy kidney diet.

Onions are one of 15 foods excellent for kidney health because they are low in potassium and full of antioxidents (which help against cancer and heart disease). They also contain chromium which helps your body metabolize fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

How I Use Onions

and how I will continue to do for my health!
  • sliced on hamburgers (I don't eat them like this but I slice them for my boys) ;)
  • sliced and included in stir fry
  • chopped into MANY recipes for flavour
  • green onions sliced and sprinkled on nachos, taco dip, and in salads

I do NOT like onions.

I DO like onion rings and I DO like french onion dip and will even eat onion soup mix dips. Don't ask me to explain because I CAN'T...I simply will NOT change my mind about onions.

However I don't mind green onions so I often substitute them in our meals and I can live with that.

I DO realize that much of the flavour of good recipes including onions come FROM the onions so I DO cook with them. I just pick them out and leave them on my plate-so any friends who cook for me-please don't be offended, it's NOT your cooking, it's just ONIONS!!

However, if you make recipes that call for onions much of the time you can chop them small and not even notice them!! (just a hint for others who don't care for them)

OR do what I do and substitute green onions. Sometimes this does change the flavour a little bit but it still works out well in most recipes!

Food has been a struggle for me for a long while now but I MUST work at this and TRY hard to eat right and healthy and improve as much as I possibly can for as long as I possibly can so I figured if I am struggling with these things DAILY and doing all this work and learning ANYWAY, why not SHARE things that I am learning with others and make their journey a little bit easier for them too.

SO, I started these pages as a help BOTH for myself and for YOU.

If it is helpful PLEASE feel free to let me know! ;)

This is a HARD process and journey to wellness and I hope that if even for a moment, even ONE item or idea or trick that I share makes your journey lighter or easier then I have given purpose and meaning to the reasons why or how this has been MINE as well.

I always wish you well and good luck with your journey too. xo
