While we do not control who our father would be, we certainly know who can be a good father and the expectations from him. A doting or an evil father, it might be the destiny, however, it will be good to remember the noticeable doting fathers that people have cherished. History could teach us a thing or two. Movies, TV serials have long story lines on loving fathers who under dire circumstances tried to be there or make a difference in their children’s lives. Whether we are parents or not, we can take these examples for inspiration can strive to become one.

Which person according to you is a great historical father figure?
Veronica - I can clearly see that Saint Joseph was not only a good father but also a good husband. It goes without saying - for a father to be loveable, he needs to be a good husband too.
Tolovaj - I agree there are not many good father figures to pick from the history. They are few, but they are there nevertheless.
DerdriuMarriner - It is interesting to note that St.Joseph is your favourite. All saints have to be good father, they are father figure to the whole world. I haven't seen the movie "The Accountant" with Ben Affleck, but I will if I find it on Netflix.
Tolovaj might be able to tell a good father from the fairy tales in his articles. I don't recall a good father figure.
The observation about the possible conflict between becoming a great historical father figure and being an actual good father interests me.
Making sure to be a good father no matter what is going on personally and professionally matters in the film The Accountant with Ben Affleck.
I mention the above film, one of my favorites, because of the mention of Baba in Kite Runner as one of three figures in the above text.
Your wizzlies, Tolovaj, note an absent father in so many fairy tales. Who would be considered a good father in fairy tales where the latter is not absent? Would it be the king in the 12 dancing princesses?
I wouldn't pick a name. Many fathers were not as good as they could be to become historical figures.
From the Old Testament, probably Adam could not be considered a great historical father figure because perhaps he transmitted lying to Cain, right? But what about Seth or Seth's descendant, Noah?
(I still would choose St. Joseph over them;-D!)
Joseph is so much my favorite choice!
Egyptian-French singer-songwriter Georges Moustaki made a hit song Mon vieux Joseph. I prefer the parts where he talks about St. Joseph asking of life that he grow old with Our Lady Mary and thinking of raising children whom he would teach the occupation that his father had taught him.
But Moustaki refers to Jesus Christ as having "strange ideas" that made his mother cry and to St. Joseph as being ridiculed for his marrying and parenting choices.
If the above be true, that he knew temporary doubt and regret once or more than once, then St. Joseph really would have been the great historical father figure for standing by his wife and her son.
My husband's father was called Joseph and a good man indeed
The suggestion of St. Joseph as a great historical father figure is a favorite with me.
March 19 is one of my favorite days since it suggests, thanks to St. Joseph, the possibility of a good, happy death (after a hopefully good, happy life).
St Joseph was supposedly a good father figure to Jesus.
