Review of Campbell's Homestyle Healthy Request Italian-style Wedding Soup

by StevenHelmer

I purchased a couple cans of this product yesterday. Read to find out why I wasn't impressed with it.

Product Description: Canned Italian-style wedding soup from the Campbell's Homestyle Healthy Request brand. I purchased two cans of this product at one of our local grocery stores yesterday morning for $2.69 each and ended up preparing both of them (in the microwave) as part of the soup and sandwich dinner I prepared last night.

Review

My youngest daughter had dance lessons yesterday evening and, looking for something her older sister could help me prepare, I decided to make grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner. I figured my wife would want something to go with her sandwich so, while at one of our local grocery stores yesterday morning, I purchased two cans of the Campbell's Homestyle Healthy Request Italian-style Wedding Soup.

I, personally, am not a huge fan of wedding soup. But, my wife is and I made this purchase with her in mind. However, as it turns out, even if I was a fan of this kind of soup, I can honestly say I wouldn't have been a fan of this product.

I knew, when I purchased this, the Healthy Request soups have less salt than some of the other soups on the shelf and, with this knowledge and with some concerns about the taste, I did end up originally looking for an alternative. However, the store I was at didn't have another Italian-style wedding soup for me to choose so I ended up making this purchase anyway. And, this proved to be a mistake.

As I kind of expected, the low salt/sodium also meant the soup had very little, if any, taste to it. In fact, this soup was as flavorless as you're going to find. It wasn't even just the broth either. The meatballs and spinach also seemed to lack taste. In other words, everything about this soup was bland and continued to be even after we added our own salt to it.

When I made this soup, I ended up making both cans because I figured we would eat both. As a result of the lack of flavor, we ended up tossing the majority of this soup because none of us were interested in seconds and I realized the leftovers would just go uneaten even if I saved them. And, I'm a person who really hates wasting food so the fact this went straight in the garbage is a big deal to me.

Final Opinion

I'm sure there are some people out there who either can't have salt or don't like foods with salt in them. If you're one of those people, then you may or may not have a different opinion of this soup than I did. However, I was very unimpressed with this product and can honestly say I have no intention of purchasing it again.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for product lines, pretty pictures and practical information.
Minestra maritata ("married soup") appeals to some and not to others. It appeals to me depending upon the particular meat and vegetable combinations.

Would leftovers have been possible as a puréed power drink?
