Review of Kirkland Signature Sliced Bacon

by StevenHelmer

I purchased four pounds of this bacon while at Costco a couple weeks ago. Read to find out what I thought of it.

Product Description: Hickory-smoke-flavored sliced bacon from the Kirkland Signature brand. I purchased four 1-pound packages of this bacon for $11.39 a couple weeks ago while doing some other grocery shopping at Costco. My wife and I ended up making some of this bacon, as part of breakfast, over the weekend.

Review

Even though my wife and I both love bacon, we never seem to have any of it in our house when we want to have it with something. Because of this, I ended up picking up four pounds of the Kirkland Signature brand of bacon the last time we were shopping at Costco, just so I had some in my freezer.

My main reason for making this particular purchase was the price. At $11.39 for the 4-pound package (a little less than $2.85 per pound), I thought the bacon was a good deal, especially since some of the other brands can run as much as $2-$3 higher. However, mostly because of the low price, I did have some concerns about the overall quality. As it turns out, those concerns were unfounded.

One of the first things I always notice about bacon is the grease that is produced when making it. All bacon produces grease. But, some brands (usually bargain brands) seem to have quite a bit more fat than others.

This particular brand would fall somewhere in the middle. It had more grease than some I've purchased. But, the bacon wasn't swimming in it, as has been the case with plenty of others. This did make the meat a lot more appetizing when we sat down to eat it. The bacon pieces were also much larger after being cooked, making them much more filling (and adding more value because one package will last us a while).

Another thing I found I liked about this product was the taste. Again, I had some concerns about this because I've discovered many cheap brands will be extremely salty (as though they are trying to hide something flavor-wise). That was not the case with this brand. It had a good, smokey, flavor to it and the right amount of salt and other seasonings, something I honestly wouldn't expect from a bargain brand.

Final Opinion

This was a good purchase. We got the bacon at a reasonable price and were rewarded with high quality. I would definitely make this purchase again.

I have wondered about this type of bacon, I buy the two packs of thick Kirkland bacon, my daughters also like the packs of pre-cooked bacon there for $12.99 it is very convenient and not bad at all. I am glad to have a real review on the multi pack of bacon.
