Review of Our Family Brand Macaroni and Cheese

by StevenHelmer

I purchased this product when it was on sale. Read to find out what I thought of it.

Product Description: Boxed macaroni and cheese product from the Our Family brand made by cooking the pasta inside the box and mixing the cheese with milk and butter. I purchased this product a couple weeks ago while grocery shopping when I found it on sale at one of our local stores for $1 per box. I made this as part of dinner last night.

Review

I decided to do some stocking up at the grocery store a couple weeks ago and, as part of that, picked up some boxed goods that I thought would be good choices for side dishes. Included in this were several boxes of the Our Family Macaroni and Cheese.

I purchased this product for a couple of reasons. First, my daughters would eat macaroni and cheese on a daily basis if they could and, because of that, I figured it would be wise to stock up while I could. The main reason I picked this particular brand, however, was the price. At $1 per box, I couldn't ask for a better deal.

While I'm definitely not opposed to buying a bargain-brand product when the opportunity presents itself, I did make this purchase with some skepticism. Even though there really shouldn't be that much of a difference between brands of macaroni and cheese, I have found quite a few that just weren't that good. And, with this being so cheap, I did wonder if that was going to be the case again. However, overall, I was pretty impressed with this brand.

I ended up making two boxes of this macaroni and cheese last night because I was (wrongly) convinced one wouldn't be enough. Following the instructions on the box was easy enough, as was doubling the ingredients, and I had no issues preparing this as I cooked the rest of our dinner (bratwursts and baked beans).

As far as taste goes, I had no complaints. One of my major issues with most bargain brands is the powdered cheese sauce tends to taste more like salt than cheese. That was definitely not the case with this brand and even my daughters (who are picky enough to complain about something like that), ate this product without a fuss.

Final Opinion

This proved to be an affordable and decent choice of macaroni and cheese. I would definitely purchase this product again in the future, especially if I found it on sale for as low of a price as I found it.

Since Kraft changed their recipe, I find our family to be a better choice. The noodles are better!
