Review of Pasta Roni Four Cheese Corkscrew Pasta

by StevenHelmer

I purchased this earlier this week when it was on sale and had it with dinner last night. Read to find out what I thought of it.

Product Description: Boxed four-cheese pasta from the Pasta Roni brand. The product is prepared on the stove by adding water, milk and butter to the ingredients inside the box. I purchased this food item earlier this week at one of our local grocery stores while it was on sale for $1. I ended up making it last night as part of our family fish dinner.

Review

Since it was Friday night, I decided to break out the beer-battered Alaskan cod fillets we had in our freezer and make them for dinner. I needed something to go with the fish, however, and decided to make a box of the Pasta Roni Four Cheese Corkscrew Pasta I had in my pantry.

I purchased this product (and several other Pasta Roni varieties) when I was grocery shopping earlier this week. This wasn't something that was on my list at the time. But, the store had it on sale for $1 and, knowing we would eventually need something like this to go with dinner, I figured it was worth making the purchase. Overall, I was happy with that decision.

I'll start out by saying there were a couple things about this product I wasn't a fan of. The first was the fact there were no microwave instructions. Granted, it wasn't overly difficult to make this on the stove top. But, there are times when I don't have the extra stove space and, because of that, I do prefer having the microwave option when it comes to side dishes.

Also, the pasta didn't quite turn out like it looked on the box. This honestly wasn't that much of a surprise since most items don't. But, I was a little disappointed when the cheese sauce didn't thicken as advertised.

That being said, I thought this product was pretty decent, at least when the lower price was taken into consideration. The cheese sauce, while thinner than I would have preferred, had a good taste to it. It wasn't too sharp and it wasn't too bland (a problem with most boxed products like this).

Also, the pasta proved to be much more filling than expected. When I made this, I was disappointed by the quantity. However, we ended up having quite a bit of it leftover, something that was very surprising and appreciated.

Final Opinion

It's not the best side dish I've ever prepared. But, it was more than adequate considering the lower price. I would definitely purchase this product again, especially if I found it on sale again.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for practical information, pretty pictures and product lines.
In particular, I appreciate being able to keep in mind, if not have on hand, quality bagged, boxed, canned, frozen, jarred products that let me extend -- if need be, because of more guests and re-serving requests than expected -- what I make fresh. I make my own cheese sauce, just right, not too thick, not too thin, so it would probably compensate for the slight thinness of the Pasta Roni.

What were the four cheeses that were in the Pasta Roni sauce?
