Review of Prego Homestyle Alfredo Sauce

by StevenHelmer

I purchased this product at one of our local grocery stores yesterday. Read to find out what I thought of it.

Product Description: Alfredo pasta sauce from the Prego brand made with fresh cream, garlic and Parmesan cheese. I purchased a “value-sized” jar of this product at one of our local grocery stores yesterday evening for $3.39, heated it up in our microwave and used it with the cheese tortellini pasta I made for our family dinner last night.

Review

Our daughters are back to ice skating twice each week and, between that and a hectic weekend, I wanted to make something simple for dinner last night just so my wife and I would have a chance to relax a little bit earlier than normal. Since I knew it was something everyone in the family would eat, I ended up buying a couple bags of cheese tortellini and, to go with it, picked up a jar of Prego Homestyle Alfredo Sauce.

I believe I have purchased this product in the past. But, when I warmed it up in the microwave last night, I honestly couldn’t remember that much about it. After trying it again, however, I thought it was a good purchase.

I don’t normally like Alfredo sauce on pasta because, more often than not, the jarred Alfredo sauces are very bland tasting. And, to be honest, when I made this sauce, I was pretty much expecting the same thing. However, that wasn’t the case. The sauce actually had a good flavor to it. I could taste the various seasonings, including the garlic. But, at the same time, it wasn’t something that was overpowering or too spicy (another pet peeve of mine when it comes to jarred sauce, though, admittedly, that does normally only happen with tomato sauces).

Another thing I found I liked about this pasta sauce is it wasn’t as thin as other jarred sauces we’ve purchased. In fact, that’s one of the main reasons why I went with the Prego brand in the first place. It was more expensive. But, because of past experience with this brand, I was hoping it would be thicker. It turns out I was right.

I also liked the fact I got a bit more value for my money when it came to the quantity. The jar was actually a little larger than some of the other brands on the shelf while not being overly expensive. This allowed us to have some leftover Alfredo sauce, something that doesn’t normally happen with many of the other brands I could have purchased.

Final Opinion

As I mentioned, this was a brand that was a bit more expensive than some of the other brands on the shelf. But, as far as overall quality goes, I did think it was well worth the extra money. I would definitely buy this product again and do recommend it.

I am glad to hear about this product, I will give the sauce in a jar another go. I have always like Prego for other sauces. Thanks for the honest review, it sure would make life a whole lot easier.
