Review of Red Baron Sausage Scrambles

by StevenHelmer

I decided to purchase this product for breakfast. Read to find out if I thought it was worth my money.

Product Description: Frozen single-serving breakfast pizza from the Red Baron brand with eggs, sausage and gravy on a biscuit-style crust. The pizza can be prepared either in the microwave or the oven. I purchased a package of 2 pizzas for a little more than $3 at one of our grocery stores last week and made them for my wife and me Saturday morning.

Review

My wife told me she was getting bored with frozen waffles and cereal for breakfast each morning so, wanting to keep her happy, I stopped at one of our local grocery stores last week in search of some items that were a little different. While there, I saw the Red Baron Sausage Scrambles in the store’s freezer section and, realizing it had been a while since I had purchased this particular item, I decided to buy a box. We ended up having these Saturday morning before going to a retirement party and, overall, I thought it was a good choice.

One thing I found I liked about this product right away was the fact it gave me cooking options. I’ve purchased quite a few items in the past that did not offer that and, while cooking items like this in the microwave is convenient, it isn’t always the best choice when it comes to quality.

Since I did have additional time, I ended up using our toaster oven to bake these and that proved to be a good decision. The crust came out crispy (but not hard) while heating the personal breakfast pizzas the way my wife and I enjoyed them. And, when it was all said and done, it actually didn’t take any longer than making them in the microwave, mostly because I could make both at once.

When it came to taste, I had no complaints. I still would put these in the frozen pizza category. In other words, they weren’t as good as homemade. But, the pizzas did have a good flavor to them and the eggs, sausage and gravy worked well together. Plus, again, we enjoyed the crust. Not only was it crispy (which isn’t always the case with frozen thick-crust pizzas like this), it had a good flavor too.

One thing that did surprise me a bit about this product was how filling the pizzas were. Even though we have had these before, I honestly wasn’t expecting that, mostly because they don’t look that big. However, they filled us both up and kept us satisfied hunger-wise until we had lunch later that day. And, there are quite a few products out there I couldn’t say that about.

Final Opinion

It’s not something I would buy on a regular basis. However, I was impressed with this product and would consider purchasing it on occasion, especially if I were to find it on sale.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for product lines, pretty pictures and practical information.
Eggs, gravy and sausage on a biscuit-style crust as mini-pizzas sound like such a fun product for breakfasts, brunches or snacks.

Was there any difference in taste or texture when the sausage scrambles were heated by microwave, oven or toaster oven?
