Review of The Essential Baking Company Organic Bake-at-Home Classic Baguette

by StevenHelmer

I purchased this product during a recent Costco visit. Read to find out if it was worth my money.

Product Description: Classic baguette from The Essential Baking Company that comes packaged for shelf storage (no refrigeration) and is prepared either in the oven, on the grill or (a piece at a time) in the toaster. I purchased a box of three for $6.99 while at Costco last week and prepared one of the baguettes last night.

Review

I have seen this particular product at Costco the last few times we visited that store. However, while I was always a bit tempted to purchase the three pack of baguettes, I was also a bit hesitant because there admittedly seemed to be something a bit "off" about how it was packaged.

However, my wife and I were at Costco last week and, since we were waiting for my parents (who came as our guests) to get done with their shopping, I had a little more time to consider the purchase. After some debate, I ended up buying the baguettes and wound up making one of them, in our oven last night. Overall, I can't complain.

Last night was leftover night and I figured this would be an easy-to-make complement to that. As it turns out, I was actually right for a change.

As far as preparation goes, this was definitely as easy as the box promised. The hardest part of the process was waiting for our oven to preheat. Once that happened, the baguette was done in about 8 minutes.

What surprised me about this product was the overall quality. I figured it would end up tasting a bit stale. That, however, was not the case. The baguette tasted surprisingly fresh. I don't know if I would describe it as bakery fresh, but it was better than many comparable (usually frozen) products we've had.

I also liked how the baguette came out of the oven. It was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, just the way we prefer freshly-baked breads. As a result of this, everyone in the family enjoyed it. And, that's something that doesn't happen very often.

Final Opinion

I had some doubts about this product when I purchased it. But, it turned out to be a good purchase and I would recommend this as a result.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for practical information, pretty pictures and product lines.
Generally, I appreciate fresh-baked bread and avoid prepared, processed equivalents. But the packaging and your information are convincing.

Once again, it helps me when what I prepare fresh falls behind drop-ins and re-servings.

What were the leftovers that went so well with the baguettes?
