A Rooster Clock for the Kitchen

by sheilamarie

Rooster clocks can brighten up your kitchen wall with bright colors and a homey design. Here's a selection of rooster clocks from different sources that you may enjoy.

A rooster clock for a kitchen cock-a-doodle-doo!

Crowing roosters have long been a cheery morning wake up that brings us back to a time when many people lived on or near a farm.

What better image to wake up to in the morning than a rooster clock on the kitchen wall reminding us to get a move on to meet our day.

Colorful Square Kitchen Clocks

Spruce Up Your Kitchen Wall

These clocks live up to their bright name! "Hot Wings" is printed on the first one -- a striking teal clock with a yellow rooster and hot chili pepper accents.

The second offering includes the words "Coq au Vin," which is the name of a delicious recipe of chicken stewed in wine. The rich blues, greens, and yellow make it a clock that will stand out on your wall. Very nice.

Both of these clocks use a fork and a knife as hands, keeping with the food theme.

Kitchen Clocks with an Antique Look

Round with Either Roman or Arabic Numerals

Whether you prefer the look of Roman numerals or of Arabic numerals, there's a round clock that would look perfect on your wall. I tend to prefer the Arabic numerals because I can read them more quickly and don't have to scratch my head at whether I'm looking at an IX or an XI. Of course most people can easily tell the time by the position of the hands, but as for me, I tend to like things clear and easy. That's why I tend to steer towards the more modern numbers. On the other hand, there's a certain classic elegance about the Roman numerals.

I really like these round rooster clocks. I think any one of them would look good on a kitchen wall. Right now I think I'm leaning towards the French country kitchen one, but which one would look best depends upon the other colors you have in your kitchen.

I prefer Arabic.

I definitely prefer Arabic numbers - especially first thing in the morning!

Unique Clocks

From Zazzle

I think these Zazzle clocks are really fun. The French rooster has an artistic look about it. "Cocorico" is the way French people imitate the crowing sound a rooster makes. It's a more realistic description than the "cock-a-doodle-doo" we English speakers say, don't you think?

The two roosters facing each other is a pretty hilarious image. Can't you almost hear their conversation as they carry on their tete-a-tete?

As you probably know, Zazzle products are designed by small time designers who share their images with anyone who wants to buy their products on the Zazzle website. These products don't appear in mortar and brick stores, but are rather only available on the Zazzle website. As a result, if you purchase a Zazzle clock and hang it on your wall, it's unlikely that you'd ever walk into a friend's kitchen and see the very same image on their wall as well. And so your clock will be a unique expression in your neighborhood.

Language
  • English -- cock-a-doodle-doo!
  • French -- coucouricou! or cocorico -- (I guess chickens in different parts of France develop regional accents.)
  • Romanian -- cucurigu!
  • Greek -- ki-ki-ri-kou!
  • Russian (and Ukrainian and Serbian -- it seems their roosters can communicate pretty well with each other) -- coo-coo-ri-coo!

Sculpted Rooster in a Barnyard Scene

The Bradford Exchange

If you want something a bit different, the Bradford Exchange has a stunning limited edition clock with a cut-out barnyard scene featuring the majestic rooster strutting among the cheery sunflowers. Beautifully constructed in multicolor, this oval clock is 44 cm high and includes precision quartz movement.

It would complement almost any kitchen decor because the images are cut out and you can see the wall behind them. The entire scene with its sunflowers, red barn, trees, clouds, and our rooster friend is framed in a mahogany toned bevel-edged frame.

As in most designs featured by the Bradford Exchange, this item is a limited edition offering and so will become a collector's item as the years go by.

Cool clocks. I like the colorful ones the best.

I'm like that, too, Digby. Currently I only have a clock by my bed and one I've just purchased in my mud room -- to help me get out the door in time! I like these rooster kitchen clocks, too.

I need to have a clock in every room of the house. I'm so easily distracted that I can loose all track of time and waste hours. I love the bright Westland Rooster Clocks
