Three Reasons to Download Flipboard

by WordWelder

Flipboard is an app compatible with both Android and iOS. Its tag line is "Your Social Magazine", and it provides a handy way to access quality content.

Information overload is not a novel concept. Way back when only a handful of people had easy access to the Internet, we already suffered from information overload in school. There were times when, as students, we just felt like tearing our hair out due to the surplus of information that we had to pack in our brains at times.

Today, information overload is even more serious, what with the amount of content that can be found online. Whether it is free or paid, there is a surfeit of content, and it is up to the consumer - that's you and me - to weed out that which can be weeded out.

That's where apps like Flipboard come in very handy. Flipboard is not a lone ranger in its field, but it is definitely one of the best.

If you are looking to narrow down your information consumption so that you only read what is relevant and interesting, here are three excellent reasons to download Flipboard.

Flipboard is beautifully designed

The screen shots above are meant to illustrate just how good Flipboard looks. The overall visual experience is simple, yet I think this is a perfect example of beauty in simplicity. (Note: The screen shots are of the iPad app.)

From the opening screen to the individual article view, the simplicity of the design makes Flipboard a beauty to behold. Sure, there might be an ad or two in certain views, but in general, the reading experience is highlighted more than anything else, and at the end of the day, what you want is the content.

FOR FREE

There is no such thing as a free lunch, but there is such a thing as a free app, and Flipboard is one of them. Whether you use an iOS or Android device, you can download Flipboard for free.

Once you have the app installed and you open it, you will be asked to set up your account. You can opt to create a Flipboard account. Additionally, you can link other social accounts such as Twitter and Facebook so that they can be included in your Flipboard stream.

Flipboard is all about customization, so that you can curate the content that you read from the app. As the tag line states, it's your own personal magazine. So, whether you want to read world news, sports news, new media news, or social media updates, you simply have to set Flipboard up the way you want it.

Flipboard has integrated social features

For the iOS app, Flipboard integrates Facebook and Twitter, allowing you to share stories that you think your friends and follower will find interesting. As you can see in the screen shot above, you do not need to leave the app to do this. There are options in every article, and you simply have to connect your accounts, tap, and share whenever you want to.

For the Android app, it gets even better. In addition to Facebook and Twitter, Flipboard for Android gives you the option of sharing content on Google+.

In this world where being social seems to be of prime importance, this capability is always sought for in apps.
