Team Eric: True Blood Gifts

by JoHarrington

Looking for gifts for fans of Eric Northman? Or perhaps you want to treat yourself to a juicy bit of Team Eric merchandise? Come on in!

So I heard you like tall, blond, rugged vampire Vikings. We have a veritable smörgåsbord of gifts for Team Eric fans to indulge themselves.

Ever since the Sheriff of Area 5 first glowered from his Fangtasia throne, a section of 'True Blood' fans have known what they want. VILF. But failing that, if Eric could just get together with Sookie, it would be close as damn it.

While we're waiting for a certain telepathic waitress to see sense, let's explore how we get to take Eric home ourselves. Feast your eyes on this lot!

Limited Edition True Blood: Eric Northman Bust

True Blood Eric Northman Figurine

Most of us don't get to keep the Eric Northman figurine. Officially licensed and cold-cast in porcelain, it comes with a hefty price-tag.

Standing 7.25" tall, the Eric Bust is one of a limited edition set, which also includes Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse. When they've gone, they've gone. In fact, on closer inspection, it appears that the Eric Northman statuette has already sold out. What we're seeing now is opportunistic entrepreneurs re-selling them at a jacked up price.

Part of me wants to get the credit card out, even while I'm scowling in disapproval.

All About True Blood's Vampire Eric

*Spoiler Warning! Skip if you haven't seen to the end!*
  • Eric Northman was born in Scandinavia, circa 962CE.
  • His father was the king of their Viking clan.
  • As a teenager, Eric was far more interested in women than in fulfilling his destiny as heir apparent.
  • He watched vampires kill his whole family, and was powerless at the time to stop them.
  • The oath of vengeance, sworn by Eric then, has driven him ever since.
  • Eric was once a Viking warrior, dying in battle...
  • ... then he met his second vampire. Godric snatched Eric from the gates of Valhalla to make him a vampire too.
  • For over 1000 years, Godric and Eric traveled around the world as a vampire family. When Godric made Nora a vampire too, Eric considered her to be his sister.
  • Eric had never created another vampire until he reached San Francisco in 1905. There he gave brothel keeper Pam the dark gift.
  • Eric is currently the vampire sheriff of Area 5. That's Louisiana to you and me.

Enter the Sheriff of Area 5

In HBO's True Blood, we first meet Eric Northman as the proprietor of the vampire club Fangtasia.

But that's not all he is. In the extensive hierarchy of vampire society, Eric Northman looms large as the Sheriff of Area 5. Humans and vampires alike can come to dark ends in his cellar. The lucky ones make it to trial.

A dangerous man, Eric watches over his people with a brooding boredom. Bill would rather keep Sookie well away, but he can't refuse the summons, when Eric beckons.

There is something very different about Sookie. She's not your average Louisiana lady. Bill knows it and Eric soon senses it. There's the telepathy for a start. It's a trait which Eric can use, and he does.

The scene is set for Sookie slowly entering Eric's life, much to the chagrin of both Sookie and Pam. But Eric remains gleeful; and he soon has reason to be glad that he continued the pursuit.

When witches leave Eric cursed and vulnerable amongst his kind, it's Sookie Stackhouse who comes to his rescue. She's seen a softer side to the Sheriff. It's a side which she would cultivate, whatever the cost.

As for Eric, his concern is still mostly what it's always been. A millennium old blood-feud sworn his dying birth father, with a Mjölnir pendant around his neck.

Funny Scenes with Eric Northman

Team Eric or Team Bill?

I'm not even going to bother running a poll for the True Blood fans on this page. I think anyone here has already made their choice. It involves occasional expletives uttered in Old Swedish around a pair of extended fangs.

Much of the intrigue of season four in particular revolved around whether Sookie Stackhouse preferred Bill Compton's Southern gentleman charm to Eric Northman's bad-ass smirk. She had reason to want to run several miles from both. But then there were plenty of reasons to surrender herself to the dark side too.

Reasons to Join Team Eric

  • Team Eric involves supporting Eric. Have you seen him? Bill Compton just does not compare.
  • Eric might be a vicious, self-serving sadist, but he never claimed to be anything else.
  • And it makes him useful as protection.
  • He does have self-control as well. Bill talks a lot about drinking Tru Blood, but his actions leave rather a lot of puncture marks in Sookie's neck.
  • Once he actually cares about someone, he's intensely loyal. He severely endangered himself to fulfill a promise made to his father a millennium ago.
  • Eric has stamina...
  • Let's be practical here. Eric has an income. He runs a nightclub and he's got property all over the place. How precisely is Bill supporting himself?
  • Eric has connections which go right to the very top of vampire society.
  • Bill Compton might be able to help historians by describing the American Civil War, but Eric could tell them all about the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. And everything that's happened since.

Team Eric Coffee Mugs | Eric Northman True Blood Mugs

There are some great quotes and True Blood scene references on these mugs.  From left to right, they read:

  • "Mr Northman... won't you please come on in???" (please??)
  • Eric... Getting rugs all wet since 1046.
  • Eric: "... see anything you... like...?" Is this a trick question?

Well, we need something to sip from, while he's tucked up in his coffin all day!

LOL I like your thinking. :)

It's a toss up between Alcide and Eric for me. Sookie can do what she wants.

I've just started reading the books, so I'll get to see this version of him too. I'm looking forward to it!

I loved Eric in the books, but somehow in the TV show he doesn't do much for me sadly.

They all reference scenes in True Blood. I want one of all of them.

Many ladies already have (some gentlemen too!). Playing Eric has turned Alexander Skarsgard into quite the celebrity.

My take on his morals is that he has his own morality, which doesn't always fall into line with the rest of society. Where he sees his duty, he follows it steadfastly. Where he doesn't, it's party-time. He's definitely the anti-hero. 'True Blood's' answer to Heathcliff.

Eric is quite a puzzle. Is he good or bad? Whatever he is, I am sure ladies will fall in love with his character.
