Having A Gymnastics Student Around The House Is An Interesting Experience

When I was growing up, my younger sister joined the gymnastics team at her middle school. I remember the long afternoons after school "spotting" her in the backyard as she practiced doing handstands, back walkovers, and one-arm cartwheels. Sometimes, I used to grit my teeth waiting for her to break her neck from landing on her head.

I used to try a few moves myself, but could never get over my fear of death-by-cartwheel. I preferred the safer route of dancing on my toes in my ballet pointe shoes. Even though my sister was just into the training that public school coaches provided, I witnessed firsthand how hard the moves are to master. It takes incredible grit and fearlessness to train in this sport.

Self-Discipline Is A Lovely Thing In A Young Person

I have always been so inspired by the dedication of young people when it come to the daily rigors of practicing their gymnastics moves. There isn't much down time for these children because they have to keep their muscles flexible and strong.

While other kids are plopped on the couch watching video games or texting, gymnastics students are busy bending and turning, flipping and stretching.
