Low self esteem is a weakling and you can and will defeat it after reading through this. It basically cannot survive if you follow these simple steps highlighted here. Many have done it and you can too. Your reward for accomplishing this will be a life filled with much more happiness and possibly even better health. Low self esteem can cause you a lot of stress in life and stress has been known to bring on severe illnesses in some cases.

It should be fairly obvious to you that low self esteem feeds off of negative thinking. If you are one who constantly critiques yourself, stop this habit immediately. The only self talk you should be doing is positive self talk such as affirmations or poems that make you feel good about yourself.

Here are 7 ways to cure Low Self Esteem;

1. Be Yourself - you are unique and wonderful and have something to contribute to this world so be the person who you really are and forget about trying to be like anyone else. Trying to be like somebody else means that you value them more than yourself, and you should NEVER think like this. While you should always strive to make yourself better, do not beat yourself up for not being as rich, good looking, or successful as someone else.

2. Don't Neglect Yourself - you must look after yourself, in terms of your health and fitness. Be sure to eat a well balanced diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables. Get enough sleep every night, recommendation is 8 hours, and do some form of exercise for 30 minutes each day. If you do this you will find that not only does your body look and feel healthy but your mind will feel clearer, you will be able to focus better and you will have a positive outlook on life.

3. Look at Failure Differently - everybody fails in life at certain times. It's those who get back up and keep trying who eventually succeed. This is true for you just as it is true for star athletes. Think of failure as a stepping stone to bring you one step closer to success. Evaluate the situation to perhaps learn from your failure. Do you need a change of course? If so, now is the time to make it. Have you ever heard the saying " You can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results" so make whatever changes you think could help and try again.

4. Focus on Your Needs & Desires - You deserve everything in life that you want, so focus on your needs and desires and go after them. When you are focused on these your confidence and feelings of self worth will increase helping you get closer to your goals and dreams.

5. Focus on Your Successes - no matter how small you may think they are, focus on the successes you have had in your life. It is when you focus on your failures that you bring yourself down and you develop low self esteem.

6. Use Positive Affirmations - on a daily basis we are bombarded with negativity. It can come from a coworker, a boss, a neighbor, pretty much anywhere we go, so it is critical that we counteract that with positivity which can come in the form of reading or listening to positive affirmations or positive poems or quote, to keep our mind focused on only positive stuff. You'll be amazed how this little action can make such a difference. Try it, you have nothing to lose.

7. Focus on Your Strengths - if you stay true to yourself you will succeed by using your strengths. As you achieve successes in your life your low self esteem will begin to fade away and this will only get better over time.

Low self esteem is something that nobody should suffer with so take these tips and apply them to your life and see how much better you feel. You ought to believe in yourself, and be yourself, and not let anyone put you down. Focus on what you want out of your life and go after it wholeheartedly. I wish you only success!!

Dustytoes, I understand what you are saying and it's true. However, in order to overcome we must at least try right?!

It seems to me that whenever we focus on the positives in our lives, our lives tend to be or get better. This is whether we are talking about low self esteem or depression or whatever is impacting upon us negatively. I'm sure you would agree.

If these negative thoughts and feelings have been part of our lives for a long time it's difficult to overcome. I like your suggestion to focus on strengths as those are your God-given gifts that you were meant to use.
