Animal Masks

If you have plans to go to a Halloween party this year, one of these animal masks could be part of the perfect costume for you. Have you always wanted to know what it feel like to be a horse? That horse head has a startled look. I'm not sure why. But he is a beauty.

How about Pegasus? You could design an elaborate costume with majestic wings. It would satisfy your cravings for fantasy.

But if Pegasus is not your idea of an ideal costume (too many feathers poofing on those wings, for one thing), what about the opposite of a centaur? Your friend could dress up as a real centaur with a human head and torso and a horse from the waist down and you could go as his opposite with a horse head and a human body. What would you name yourself? "Ruatnec"?

I think in terms of getting around, you'd have the best part of that combination. No struggling with a messy cardboard box made into legs, or anything like that. You could walk around on your own two strong legs. Yes, maybe the head would get a bit sweaty -- I've never worn one, so I can't be sure about that -- but you'd be able to do some great dance moves wearing it. No one needs to know it's you behind there so let loose and dance up a storm!

If you and all your friends got together and each of you chose one of these lovelies to wear, you could get very theatrical in a hurry. Choose your story: Will it be a fairy tale? An Aesop's fable? Will you take on the characters in a story such as George Orwell's Animal Farm?

Maybe you have a children's story with animal characters you really love and you recognize some of those characters in the masks on this page. I think the possibilities are limitless.

Hey, you could make up your own little play, or at least a skit, and act it out in the character whose head you are wearing.

What about a flash mob with everyone wearing a mask?

I better stop because I think I'm getting carried away.

Anyway, I saw these masks and thought to myself that they were kind of funny, and I wanted to share them with you.

Well, if you're not brave enough to wear one of these head masks, maybe your kids would be. They could sing "Old MacDonald" ad nauseum wearing their animal heads. I think they'd really like it.

(Be aware of the age recommendations on some of them, though. Also avoid a latex mask if you are allergic to latex.)

Kids may have some ideas about how to make the rest of their costume, too. Maybe just a pair of pajamas in the right color would be enough. The head is the most important part, after all.
