Lizzie, it's funny I just mentioned the apparent loss of service from Scroogle on a just published Wizer. Your suggestion for alternatives is appropriate for us ranking nuts. I use neither of your suggestions, as I feel that they may in turn fall foul of unscrupulous persons.
Some months ago I found a good alternative that does not rely on access by the general public. It is a personal Google database scraper, without personalized results. You can create one of your own, to have open all the time, just for the sort of things that we have to do. There are Google adverts, with the provider of the front-end having their adsense affiliate attached, but I am happy to let them earn from me, for making my life easier.
You can get the front-end search page from
http://www.mydailysearch.com/You can make it your homepage and there are links to Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo! and GMail. You can even customize the background image to your liking. I recommend it - you can see some results generated from mine in my latest Wizer, if interested.
Otherwise, a timely article needed by us all.
