Best Free Book iPad App

by Sam

I show you the quickest way to add the, in my opinion, best free book iPad app and get started with reading free books on your iPad or iPad2 in no time.

If you own already an iPad, I have a good message for you: You don't need to buy a Kindle to take advantage of the huge selection of free books on Amazon! I show you how it is done, plus I will give you some tips on how to find the best free books for your iPad and give you also some recommendations, including my personal favorites. But first you need to get this best free book iPad app - which is thankfully not difficult ;-)

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Navigate, with your iPad of course, to the official iTunes Store and download this app.
  2. Open the app and log into your Amazon account to register your iPad.
  3. Done!

You see that was really not difficult ;-)

BTW, you can now either manage your collection from inside your iPad app or you can do so via the Kindle store on Amazon itself. Click here and then select 'Manage Your Kindle' from the top menu. As this requires a login, I can't give you a more direct link, sorry ;-(

How to Find Free Books for your iPad or iPad 2

... on Amazon of course!

Unfortunately a recent update by Apple's iTunes store has removed the possibility to buy, or download for free, books from inside the app. But there is a quick workaround:

  • Fire up Safari and go to the Kindle store on Amazon.
  • Add the url to your home screen by giving the shortcut a name and click add.
  • Now you have created a bookmark / shortcut that takes you quickly to the Kindle Store whenever you want.

Now here my tips for finding free books:

Go to the ebook section of the Amazon Kindle store.

In the top right corner is a little box 'sort by', set this to 'Price: low to high' and magically the free books will appear on top of the page.

Play around with the categories on the left, to narrow things down by your topic of interest and try also some searches (author, keyword, topic etc) via their search bar.

As long as you keep 'sort by', set to 'Price: low to high', you will have always the free books on top.

A lot of classic books are now available for free, due to the fact that their copyright has expired, but you can also find some newer stuff for free, mostly by new and budding authors that want to get their name out there. And as they are free, why not give them a try? You might well discover the next great writer!

Important: You have to look out that you see 'Buy: $0.00' and ignore the Amazon Prime offerings as you need to be a paid up member for those ...
